Mondo busy with work, getting ready for the second part of the summer semester. Whee.
As usual, if I don't have anything to say, I don't say anything...
I'm not sure what to make of Wax Rhapsodic yet... It seems we've been dropped in the middle of the story, and I'm trying to figure out who is doing what, and why they're doing it...
-Zodo

I was fine until, right in the middle of a story arc, with no warning, a completely different comic, populated with unknown characters in an unspecified locale was posted in place of Jackie's Fridge.
At least a little blurb on top of the comic saying "See News below" would have been nice. Even Sluggy Freelance does that when Pete takes a vacation.
A week without Jackie's Fridge is not a good week.
Doc

I seem to remember this happening "right on schedule." It's been on the news section for a week or more.
--Michael
------------------

I agree, BJ's artwork has improved by a vast degree. Still, I rather like what I've seen so far of this other comic. I prefer JF, but this is a nice filler.
------------------

I must say that back in the day, BJ sure was liberal with his ink.
It sort of clashes in the first panel of the first strip for Wednesday, the BOOM being drowned out by the darkness behind it.
As other people have said, it is cool to watch the genesis and growth of an artist. I also know where BJ comes from in some of his annotations. When I look back at my early writing, I don't think highly of it.
-Zodo

Actually, they got a little cleaner because I have better source material from here on. Seriously, I've lost the original art for these, so all I have are some nasty, tiny photocopies. I'm surprised I found something of each strip.
Thanks for bearing with me, and giving Wax a chance. I'll get back to JF on monday, promise!
------------------

Looks like it's some more of that aforementioned artistic growth.
As for the second strip, I hate when that happens...
Hope Jen's not like me... who would lose his head if it wasn't attached.
-Zodo

Jen? Here she is:

The top one is just a pen sketch from (I think) 1998, and the bottom is the cleaned-up pencil work for an unused minicomic cover (I had to re-type the non-photo dialogue).
She's fun. My very own deus ex machina.
------------------

Here's a page from said minicomic:

From 1996 or '97, unscannable dialogue typed in place. Not bad for old stuff.

I'll be glad when Jackie's Fridge starts up again...
Sorry, but I just didn't really like W.R. I though the art was excellent, but it just kinda creeped me out... and not in a good way... sorry Don't hate me!!!!
But I'd take cute Jackie over head floating girl anyday!!!!!
------------------

Actually, the strips you saw are the ones that were stolen, but I did get the portfolio back. I've just lost them again since then.
The unrecovered WR stuff was about 70 pages of longhand prose dealing with the WR universe and some hefty explanations of how things work and why. Real brain-twisting stuff that I was so happy to finally have explained clearly. And now it's gone, and I can't even begin to reassemble it.
Speaking of lost stuff, I scripted the upcoming story (the one what starts monday) in one sitting, start to finish. I was so proud of it. Then the computer froze up and I lost it all, along with six strips for a beach story.
I hate technology.
I did rewrite it as well as I could from memory, and it's pretty darn close. But still. That's three hours I could've spent doing something else. Grrrr
------------------
