What are some free, fast, effective ways to advertise on the internet? I've looked and looked, but nothing seems to actually be any good...

Effective Advertising? The Best I would think of is getting a Super Bowl Spot, but since that's most likely never the case, some cheaper alternatives is to pick and choose. Some starter Ideas would be joining Banner exchanges, or a Dropdown. Also, if you can get your site linked on sites, the better the chances you'll get your site veiwed by people.

That's all I know, and care to know.

So far I've gotten the most visits just by posting in these forums, lol! It's effective AND loads of fun.

Me too, but I am very interested in expanding my readership BEYOND KeenSpace regulars. I mean, really, the only people who read these forums are people who themselves have webcomics. I'm just perplexed as to how to branch out from here...

So true... But Keenspace is a great crowd to start with, right? These people have been around longer than I have and give good comments and suggestions. My comic has (in my eyes) improved a lot since I started a month ago.

I get a few hits from being listed in a non-Keen top list. Namely the "Funny Pages top 200" but other than that I haven't really found a way to tri- invite people to my website...

Word of mouth is a good start, you'd be amazed how far stuff can go if it's high quality material. I've shared a bunch of this stuff with friends of mine in real life, and they've apparently told their friends without me asking them too. A couple people said they made me their home page! Makes a lot of pressure to turn out a quality product, though. Still, if your stuff is funny, it can advertise itself, and that's the cheapest way of all. Also you can do the whole fan-art, link swapping, yadda yadda, (copy and paste old topic discussion here). I know that much, and I haven't even been up for a whole month yet.

There's always crossovers... also, making totally unrelated web sites is good (I have an mp3.com site). My most successful method is spamming every single bulletin board I've ever posted on (especially non keen ones).

Something that's helped my comic emensly is signing up with Fantasy Herald. You might go have a look. Oh, and other non-Keen forums, too. Not that I get many visits, but it did help alot.

While I can't say what's the best way to advertize your comic, the absoulte worst way is to spam it all over Usenet and via E-mail.

Why? It not only damages your reputation, it may kill you account, and damages KeenSpace's reputation too.

Here's a definite something that will get visitors to your comic immensely:

Rip off your clothes, jump on a car roof, and scream "ROCKWROK!" and yell about yer comic and it's greatness.

How's that for a real ad? After all, sex and comedy always sells.

I think I'll skip that method of advertising.

You take a wing of a bat that was killed at midnight, mix it with a tongue of lizard. Cook for about an hour, then add half-a-bottle of "Tuborg" and finally grinded mistletoe. Then, on a last day of spring, at 7.00 am, spill it all in the nearest river, saying: "Ochu da mi dodju chitaoci".
Your readership's gonna increase ten times.
