Cute, I usually don't bother getting involved in that whole silly rivalry between our two cities. (I thought that whole thing was all about hockey anyway. I'm not into hockey.) I have some good friends that live in Edmonton. I also did my basic training up there.
There is one thing that I particularly like about Calgary more. We get the chinooks down here. Edmonton gets way too bloody cold in the winter. I'll stick to southern Alberta thanks.

Sheesh, you're still going on about that? How pathetic. I really think it's quite obnoxious and inappropriate to come in here just to bash the city I live in. I'm not particularly fond of Edmonton but I don't go around bashing it, because doing so is childish and I have friends there. I'm quite sure they wouldn't appreciate it. I certainly don't appreciate it!
Besides, this is a world community and there are few here that even care about what city I live in, let alone what you have to say about it. I love it here in Calgary. If anyone does ever want to hear about it, they can hear it from someone who's lived here their whole life.

And if anyone makes a feeble attempt to oppose me, the cold will not be the only bloody visage of Killmonton. *GLARE*
KILLROY

...myself, I think both Calgary and Edmonton are great cities. I grew up in Calgary, and then when I moved to Edmonton, I had to put up with all the Cow-town bashing. Which sucked. I still cheer for the Stamps (woo! grey cup!), but love all the wonderful festivals that Edmonton has (ie: Fringe, Animethon)
About the only thing I think that Edmonton is better at is producing wonderful comic artists! But in all fairness, Calgary has a better small-press scene.
just my thoughts on the subject.

------------------

Heh, it's funny I've lived here all my life, but I'm so out of any of the "scenes". We used to have some great coffee shops, but most of them have dissapeared.
The only comic artist I know of that came out of Calgary and made it big is Todd McFarlain. I'm not particlarly fond of his stuff, but he sure knows his business. I hope to be the second big comic artist to come out of Calgary! (~-^) Hope anyway...maybe?

Animethon is this big thing the University's Anime club (BAKA) puts on every summer, usually in July. They hold it at Grant MacEwan in a bunch of the lecture theatres. http://www.ualberta.ca/~baka/
As for buying anime/manga locally, sorry, I can't help you out there. I have no idea myself, though I do know that some of the comics shops do have some selection (Warp Two isn't too horribly overpriced, if I recall)
