The recent MST3K tribute prompted me to think that of all things, Douglas Adams deserves a webcomic tribute. I put one up in a quickly made rush, but those of use who loved him and the Guide should do something, no?
I'm not generally one for these get togethers, and perhaps I'm just speaking foolish blather, but (come the time I actually start up FJ anew) it would take me FOREVER to get to the point in my story where I could shove in some HHGTTG references, and a detached tribute of some form is what I'll aim for at some point.
Of course,I am speaking in a unthinking mourning mood so who the hell knows.
------------------

Of course, the question remains as to when. Hm... I nominate July 11, simply because he was born on March 11 and died on May 11, so it's a logical progression... or something... I don't know... anyone got a better suggestion?
------------------

Hm... I just realized I probably should have used a different message icon for my previous two posts. A smiling happy face next to a post about Douglas Adams' death doesn't really seem quite right...

I posted the following in the Keenspot forum, but I'll post it here too in case someone reads one and not the other:

quote:
Originally posted by BabyJ:
I am no organizer. I merely scream out when in pain! ^_^

Well, if you don't want to organize it, I'll try to get something rolling, then. Judging from all the messages about Douglas Adams on the mailing lists, I don't think we'll have too much trouble finding people interested in participating. I'll get started by requesting a keenspace account for the tribute. (Probably dnatribute.keenspace.com (dna for "Douglas Noel Adams", of course), I guess, unless someone has a better idea. The URL doesn't matter too much, anyway, since I suppose most people will probably get there from the individual tribute pages rather than directly.)
So, I guess I'll try to organize this similarly to other recent crossovers and such have been done. To wit, anyone who's interested either post here or e-mail me at jerik@slapdashcomic.com and let me know - and please include your comic name and the URL where your tribute is going to be posted. (Not just the index page, since presumably the tribute's not going to be there for long; I mean a URL that should be permanent.) No hurry - we've got two months (unless someone comes up with a good reason for an earlier date than July 11), and it's likely to be a few weeks at least before the dnatribute.keenspace.com account even exists.
------------------

Hmm... I just realized, I probably should have put the news about this in the Dropdowns and Crossovers forum. Well, I started a topic about it there now; anyone else interested please post there (or e-mail me).
------------------

...::SIGH:: I've never read any of the seires, even though my local book store has a hardback collection of every one for only $16.95.
Still, I did read the Marvel adaptaion of HHGTTG, and I liked what I saw. I have till June 22nd to familarize myself with the book and pay tribute? Let's go for it!
------------------

Okay, I finally got around to making a yahoo group for discussion of the Douglas Adams Tribute Event. It's at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dnatribute/ . If you've already said on the message board that you were interested (and I didn't stupidly not see your message, and your e-mail address is listed in your profile), then you should already have received an invitation to join the group. Those who didn't receive invitations and are interested, though, feel free to click on the above link and join the group anyway. It shouldn't be a high-traffic group; it's just to facilitate coordination of the event and all that. Sorry for the delay.
