If you are reading this: Stop what you are doing. Shut off the computer. Shoplift $8.50 worth of hard liquor and sell it to a wino. With the money, buy a movie ticket and SEE THIS MOVIE!
Ok... so I'm not the harshest movie critic out there and I'm sure there are others who will disagree with me for various reasons; but in my humble opinion, this movie is DARN great; not flawless, but great! The special affects are SCRUMPTIOUS, the action is wonderfully choreographed, the plot was smooth and I thought it had a lot of heart.
Anybody else see it and have an opinion?
Especially anyone who has read the actual series as I have henceforth neglected to pursue it.

Other then a few (very few) nitpickish things, the movie was quite good, always have been a fan of fantasy...
It totally rocked all over Willow...
What was up with the elves and high hairlines? Was that supposed to make them look more intelligent? Gimmili (sp) killed goblins!

Gimli rulz!
no seriously I like gimli even though, by fantasy standards, he has become something of a sterotype. I think that he is pretty cool, but he drops out of the storyline pretty fast, IIRC.
I really only read LotR once, though, so forgive me if I dont remember the names, Gimli's only real contribution is that he insists that they go to the mines and then... All the dwarves are dead, I am sure the rest of the questors were think "good one Gimli!"
Tom... I didn't really like him... He really didnt have that great a role, but if you like that is cool. He was real mystical, could talk to trees, and shapechange right?
[This message has been edited by rcawley8 (edited 12-23-2001).]

rcawley8> It's Gimli. And what's the matter with him killing Goblins? I'm not sure about the high hair line though...
I'm going to see the movie tonight with my cousin. When I heard that they were making a movie I was so happy. JRR Tolkien is my favorite author. I've read the Hobbit and LoTR so many times! I cannot wait to see this movie! I heard they cut out Tom Bombadil though...*pouts* He's a cool character...I wanted to see what he looked like. OH well what can ya do.
*jumps up and down* I can't wait for this movie!!!
------------------

Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow;
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.
Tom helped get Merry and Pippen out of the Old man Willow and all four stayed with him and Goldberry, the river daughter. I always found him a cherry fellow. I don't recall him being a shapeshifter but all characters in LoTR were mystical.
Gimli is a huge part in the book! One of my favorite parts is in the second book when Legolas and Gimli are fighting the orcs at Helm's deep and they're challenging each other to see who can kill more. It was a good part.
Saw the movie on Sunday. Really good!!! Excellent! Four paws way way up!! It is now officially my favorite movie. Much better then the animated LoTR which I just got for christmas. Definitely worth seeing again, which I intend to do.
Talk to ya all lata.
------------------

Yeah Niquee but after that, then where is Gimli? he does drop out of the book.
Yea that is the guy, tom... Nope, thought he was kinda extraneous, but if you like I will not think less of you for it.
It kinda leads back to the old Coke/Pepsi debate... Preferences.
I agree it was better than the animated one. Ugh, did you every see what they did with the left over footage? Ralph whatever's movie called wizards. Bad movie...

I always found Dr. Pepper better then Coke or Pepsi.
I'm glad you won't think less of me for enjoying Tom Bombadil. I'd have to say though, my favorite character (non-fellowship character) would have to be TreeBeard. Anyone everheard of B. Ellis de Jong? Here's her Elfwood Gallery. She has some amazing pictures of Tolkien's work. My favorite is her TreeBeard picture.
Well...I'm planning on seeing the movie again this weekend. Talk to ya all lata.
------------------

*dances*
The movie ROCKS!!!!!!!
I finally got to see it last night, and... oh my gosh!!
I read the books a long time ago, and I'm getting better about not nitpicking, but they stuck VERY close to the original text, it seemed. They did an EXCELLENT job of getting the message across, I was pleased to see that they didn't try to undermine that. I actually think it was better that I hadn't read it recently, because it made it more thrilling not remembering what happens...
But all that aside... dude, it kicked butt.
I can't wait for the next two movies to come out!!!
Oh, by the way, what is the name of the other human guy? Not aragorn, but the guy who dies... I can't for the life of me remember his name...

The other dude's name was Boromir.
I also thought the movie was excellent, except for two things:
I think Galadriel would have been more effective without the special effects.
All that water imagery at the end of a three hour movie.
Aside from that, it was the best movie I've seen in a long time.

Hee hee...saw it for a second time last night. I think it got better some how. I'd say I'm going to go see it again.
Ah yes Boromir. I always liked him. I can't wait to see who plays Faramir (Boromir's brother)
And Gollum! *shivers* He was good from what I saw of him. Can't wait to see the second movie.
Elbereth!
------------------

I loved the blonde elf guy. He was SUPER-HOT... plus he was the only guy with clean hair throughout the whole movie. Anybody notice that? All the other guys had dark and greasy hair, but the elf dude always had clean, cool hair. Plus he's really good with a bow and arrow....
what's his name again?

Yup, it's Legolas.
I know quite well, my sister is developing a crush on him.

Okay, I shouldn't complain, Galadriel was quite impressing too, imho.
