We have nudity in our gallery, but technically haven't had actual full-fledged nudity in the comic itself.When it's called for, it'll happen -- unless the "potted fern in from of the jubblies" trick will get a better laugh.Readers who respond seem pretty neutral about it.------------------

I have nudity all over the place in nearly all my comics. I seem incapable of sustaining a G-rated (whatever that means in the real world) story for very long. It doesn't help that I've surrounded myself with like-minded writers for collaborative projects. The nudity is often deliberately non-functional in plot terms but important for characterisation in that I want the readers to know about the characters' physical form and how the characters relate to it. In <A HREF="http://www.rocr.net/" TARGET=_blank>Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan</A>, Kel in particular gets her dress off all the time, and as will become clear in the very near future, she subscribes to very different social codes than the rest of the cast. The other cast
members aren't particularly shy either, but I'll be introducing a new character who is.From the point of view of getting visitors, I usually don't use the nudity for that, but I've made an exception for the <A HREF="http://www.rocr.net/d/20010102.html" TARGET=_blank>current story, The Faerie and the Earth-Pig</A> because the nudity is much more prevalent even by my standards, and because another character's reaction to it drives the storyline.------------------

My comic has had an extreme close up of my character Ziggy's cock, a completely uncut view of same character eating out a woman, a man with a penis for a head selling condoms to two naked people, a dog and a woman having sex, and a character named Lynda Labia who hasn't gotten naked....yet. Of course, if seeding any of this in my comic gets you horny, you are very weird, because it's all very badly drawn.I know you still want to see it, though!Now let's see how many pageviews I get.------------------

Yet another reason why parents are cool folks. They let me see nudity (and even sexual situations) no matter how old i was, but never violence. They thought that I should understand nudity as part of life, not something shameful, but that violence was shameful...I also saw lots of foreign films as a kid. and still do. ^^ i love the independant theaters!...and here my comic has some violence and no nudity yet!
But i do a lot of manga fanart and have drawn nudity, but when i do it's all "fake nudity". the "framed/g-rated/no nipples" nudity.Thou i'd say "shit" and not "shucks", (oh fuck i said "shit"! ... oh hell I said "fuck"!... etc...) I don't ever care to draw real nudity. I find nudity fine when it's real- as in a drawing class with a nude model, but to draw my manga-style characters "real" nude seems to me to be making them into something pornographic. I don't know why....maybe because they're all based on me and my friends for the most part and I'd be lynched if I did? ^_~------------------

Heh. One female friend who is a strong influence on one of my character keeps bugging me to put more nudity in, and dissing me for some of the more "discreet" redrawings I did in my current storyline. (Uh, I redrew a lot of old art that was really bad, and because I was a bit wary of getting a lot of negative responses, I made the images a little less revealing than the originals. Eventually, I abandoned this practice as the story progressed so it's now at least as revealing as it was in the original version).------------------

I also want to say that, unless it's for comic effect, censorious black bars and strategic potted ferns are as stupid and intrusive as saying "shucks" when you mean "shit." With words as with images, there is a precision in the craft that is violated by watering things down. We all know what's behind the potted plant, and we all konw what the *** in f*** stands for. You're not fooling anyone. Or, as I was told when I was a churchgoer: "God knows what you meant."If plot calls for nudity, you may be sure it will be honest nudity. If plot calls for strong language, you may be sure it will be honest fuckin' language. We have been warped by media and a Puritanical code that says that we should pretend we don't do or think things, and by all means make sure the kids don't have a clue what's going on (so sad Sally's pregnant).Here's my stance: Nudity is not Sex. Neither is evil, or wrong, or a sin. I therefore refuse to treat either as something I'm ashamed of. That's why our parties are so much fun.Murder and rape and abuse are wrong, and I will treat them carefully, but once again if the plot calls for it I will treat them honestly.Of course, PDI is a comedy, so while I'd like to educate the masses, I will also be going for a laugh, and there will be no "very special episode" about drug abuse, spouse abuse, or latch-key children.This is (obviously) something I feel strongly about. I'd be willing to do a panel on the subject for the Keenvention. ------------------

Well it's not so much a gay=foreign equation, but like this: "If you like foreign films, you must be gay." Or maybe "real men aren't gay. Real men don't like foreign films. Real men are only interested in American stuff." If you draw like Sussi Bech (Danish creator of gorgeously-drawn stories set in ancient Egypt - highly recommended), they look anything but dumb, and they don't look dumb when Dave Kelly draws them either.Generally though, you are right to avoid drawing things you're not comfortable with. I hate drawing nudity, it never looks right. I recently had to draw a male character dressed as Chun-Li from Street Fighter, who as you probably know flashes a lot of thigh, but he wore his trousers underneath the skirt thing.If your nudity is tasteful (no legs apart) and necessary for the joke/storyline, then by all means - we're all adults, aren't we? BUT gratuity is another thing entirely. That's my convoluted half-arsed opinion and I'm welcome to it.------------------
