Ok most of you probably know that the plan for the Gear is to become an official Keenspot-like page, but run by us. -Read this thread and this one too if you want the full story.
The thing is tho' that I can't pull this off by myself, I'm going to need about five people with FTP access, and more willing to submit files, graphics, FAQ's, and the like.
So if you're willing, committed, and able to help, let me know what you'd like to do.
------------------

Well, I'm open for logs and button graphics, that sort of thing. I just need to know specifically what kind. I'm a trained graphic designer, so hopefully I can make your page look sharp as a knife.-
------------------

I could also do minor grunt work or something... I'm not particularly proficient at anything. Maybe I could rip open the packet of Sweet and Low for PDI's coffee. Think of the efficiency!
But, I guess I'll try, too.
------------------

To be more precise, I'm familiar with HTML, in process of learning such things as XML, java and tickle, and I have a good eye for design. I also am a full-time student pretty much ONLY, so I often have more time than others.
I'm an English major, and trained in copyediting, photograhpy, layout, journalism (print and broadcast) at all levels.
That's what I can offer the team.
And coffee.
------------------

Ok. Scott, Shay, I'll send you the FTP passwords so you can work on the site. At the moment just start doing what ever you see needing to be done, we'll organise ourselves once we know what we each can do. Feel free to do news updates and the like, this isn't just my site.
What I want to see from anybody, is suggestions for a new site design. You can draw a concept if you don't want to actually code one. Your design should look offical -Gear is a staging area to test the concept of how a 'Spacer run KeenSpot like site will work.
------------------

Alphabetical order's a good idea, but what do you mean by size? If you're talking about the logo above the dropdowns, I's thinking of setting a limit of no more than 150x50.
Links for the D³ (DropDown Directory) I think would best be handled from the Gear page, but links for the sign up page/maintainers' site would be a good idea.
As for automation I've been thinking about it, and I can't see how it'd work. How'd you stop some one from signing up for ones that they don't belong on -inavertantly or otherwise? Scripts, ***tags***, and the like are easy enough, tho'.
------------------

Well...I was thinking an automated signup would be okay as long as an admin went through and weeded out tany bad ones, say, once a week?
They're not growing very fast, just now. Just a thought to reduce workload, anyway.

I will spout many ideas. It does noit necessarily mean I am emotionally arttached to them..it's a brainstorming technique, just shout out the idea, let others run with it or nix it. Save my critical thinking for responding to others' shout-outs.
I do the same while shopping, annoys people.

But how fast would they grow once they become semi-automated? And who would decide what fits and what doesn't?
It sounds like the best idea tho', we'll sort something out once the official newsbox system is up.
Chris, Nate, what's the latest word on that?

Has anybody got any ideas, suggestions, questions about stuff they'd like to see on the site?
[This message has been edited by Seven3 (edited 01-11-2001).]

As soon as I get the password, I will work on updating the dropdowns.
Do we think they should all have similar style (ie: alphabetical order, size, link through image to sign-up spot, link to directory, etc?)
Is there a way to code an automated sign-up?
It'll be a month or two before my studies will be advanced enough to create such a thing.

------------------

We could put a random KeenVention page on the Gear so it works like the 'Spot profile!

quote:
Originally posted by Seven3:
