I was thinking about starting a gaming comic..yes, I know, they're evil. But the main thing about this comic is that the main character is completely alienated from any sort of electronic gaming. Here's a couple strips I created:

I think he should be completely alienated from society in general and play the game where you spin the barrel of the gun and see if you die. He should also play the game with the knife where you see how fast you can go without chopping your fingers off. Another game he could play is 'Try to emotionally disturb my psychiatrist with stories of my painful alienation'.
That's a gaming comic I'd enjoy.
------------------

That's awesome. You should go for it. Especially since the Playstation 2 was just released in the states. There's lots of material in that.
Paul
------------------

Your 2 strips look good to me! Go for it.
BTW while "gaming comic" is almost synonomous with "computer gaming comic", there is at least one other comic with boardgames: mine.
good luck!

------------------

Well, on the one hand, the two strips you have posted are funny. On the other hand, there are, IMO, more than enough gaming comics as it is. Now, you seem to have a different enough take on it that I think this would be a good comic - but I'm a little worried by your post about how "in the end, Joel will be fully-equipped on gaming". If he loses his separation from the general gaming crowd, that takes away the main thing that, it seems, would really make your comic stand apart from the hordes of other gaming comics out there...
But, heck, I'm just rambling now. Like I said, the two strips you posted are funny. Go for it. Except... Don't you draw two comics already? You really want to go for three?
Eh, I'll shut up now.

------------------

In the end, Joel will be fully-equipped on gaming, but most of the first year would be training. The first storyline(besides the intro) would be the introduction to computer gaming(like.. Monopoly for Win95.. almost like playing the real thing..which is why Joel breaks out the real thing and starts playing), deathmatching..or 3d games..or 3D in general. And then, on to Lucasarts games, and then video games, comparisons of systems, etc.

I think it's spiffy cool. Since it's a gaming comic, it's sure to attract its own legion of fans or something. Helps that the art is good.
------------------

I draw one strip and the 2nd's in limbo, so this is something I can do in the meantime.
What I meant was, there will be a point where Joel gets the hang of gaming in general. He won't be like the Penny Arcade cast or PVP cast.. he won't spout endless injokes about Daikatana, for example. He probably would not even get a chance to play it.
The intro storyline involves Hep Mario's death, which leads the cartoonist to call in a substitute lackey, named Jack. Jack wants to be in a Penny Arcade type strip(he even has Bomberman on his shirt, like others have Pacman on theirs), and is angered at his given position, and his job is to train Joel to be a respectable gaming comic veteran, if he wants to be promoted. Having Joel become a master at gaming is like Fry of Futurama becoming fully used to living in the future. It'll never fully happen.
There'll be storylines like amateur games(klik&play, etc), deathmatches in general, video gaming, system bias, interviewing big name game creators, and stuff like that.
So, there's quite a way to go. Not to mention the comic will be only 3 days a week.
And if you want to see a preview of the site design, here you go:

That site design is cool.. it's too big for 800x600, if that's what you intended it for. You might need to shrink the menu just a tad.
------------------
