What the~~!?
I decided to go see how many new readers I got from Exploitation Now today, and lo and behold if there weren't 15 referrals from http://www.pvponline.com/???
I, of course, went to look at the site, but found absolutely *nothing* that could link to me, or be related to my site, or be related to something else related to my site, etc., etc.
Anyone else get PvP hits today?
I'd like to figure out this odd mystery...
------------------

What happens is that you sometimes get a referral from a site that has no link to you whatsoever. And when that happens it usually registers as multiple hits too. Don't ask me to explain it. Somebody visits your site after visiting that one, sometimes goes wrong with webalizer and all their hits from that session then get registered as referrals? I'm just guessing.
This month I have for example 13 hits from http://www.detonate.net/ch1ckie/index.php even tho they never linked to me on there. Same for the 12 hits from http://www.gpf-comics.com/games/ and so on.
------------------

Here's what happens, as I understand it. Referrers are simply the last site the person was at before they visited yours. So some things that should come up direct request may come up http://www.cia.gov or something when in no way does the CIA link to you. Certain sites are insanely popular, so you can get some of those with no linkage and mucho hits. At least that's what "they" say. Of course, "they" are a bunch of invasive buglers anyway.
------------------

I did, but that's because I was careful to make a post on the PvP forum which contained the URL to my site. And what, you may ask, is that URL? Why, it's http://forsooth.keenspace.com -- glad to answer your question, sir or madam.
--nielsen the moose king
