Go out there and vote Green! Or at the very least democratic.
A vote for Gore is a vote for Bush. A vote for Bush is a vote for Buchanan. A vote for LaRouche is an excuse for everyone to make fun of you for 4 years.
------------------

They don't allow Nader as a write-in in my state.
Stupid Republicrats...
Although, I think Gore is the better choice, if only to avoid the inevitable "Duh, what's this button do?" scenario that "Dubya" would cause...
------------------

Don't forget to vote on state and local things too -- they'll influence you daily life quite a bit more.
And if things do in fact start to go to hell, form groups to (a) bitch about it to your representatives, and (b) do damage control in the local communities.
Democracy works exactly as well as its populace deserves. Yea Gads! Even half way around the world, I can't get away from American Politics.
What's the bet no-one else here knows about the political situation in New Zealand? (Mind you a poll showed that a quarter of us kiwis don't really know about the political situation in NZ). But that's happens when your countries GDP is outweighed by the likes of Fox. *sighs*
Oh well, at least they haven't renamed a section of State Highway 1 this time. - The road between the towns of Clinton and Gore is called "The Presidental Highway" (unfortunatly I'm not kidding).
GAH!!! - Even as I write this, our own media is covering it to death. (if only)
------------------

It's not that I particularily like our government, but at least we have more than two choices. Sure, there are usually only a couple of parties that really have a chance, but they change periodically.
I'm just hoping that when OUR election comes along later this month, that Stockwell Day (or Stockwell Prick as I've come to call him) doesn't get elected. He's so conservative it stings. I'd be scared, even though I AM a blue-haired-blond-eyed-middle-class-white guy.
[shivers]
On the plus side, I don't have to vote for Gore or Bush. Hah!
WhooT!!

So the headlines on the TV this morning were that Bush has won the election - the HEADLINES on British TV news - Why? I dont particularly care who runs the USA and I doubt when we have our elections in Britain that the winner is headline news in the US...
------------------

I'd just like to clear this up a bit. Should Gore become president the spotlight of the entire nation will be thrust upon possible censorship. Their abilities to actually change the First Amendment are rather close to nil but that doesn't stop people from making jokes about it. Unfortunately, it gets lost in the shuffle that Republicans are more of a danger to freedom of expression (prayer in school? abortion?) than most of the other parties.

quote:
Originally posted by Capheine:

Which swing state are you in? I haven't seen a commercial for the presidential election in MONTHS. Stupid voting blocks. Almost makes you wish our state was contested.

You mean ALL of the parties? Well, except, I guess the Buchanan-led Reform party--but who careds about them, really?
Gore and his wife already tried to legislate censorship (on records) in the eighties. All they got was a sticker that made poeple want to buy the album more. I think they've learned their lesson.

I understand what you're saying but the dead man was winning before. The real question isn't how could you vote for Mel Carnahan, but how would possibly vote against him. Even if I hated his politics (not familiar) I would still feel obligated to vote for the guy. Recently we joked that the Republican Senate candidate should have killed himself to defeat the favorite.

quote:
Originally posted by Nate:

Ditto. Except over here both British and US politics take preference over our own.
And on the odd occasion we are mentioned, it's not entirely accurate. Who can tell me how many people in the North Island were evacuated when Mt Ruapehu errupted?
Ah, TV over here isn't too bad, even if traffic in the 'Gobal Village' is largely one-way. Xena repeats anyone?

Sheesh -- at least GORE didn't try to earn brownie points for his party members.
And our mainly idiot-Republican-inbred-backwater-hick populace voted for Bush, of course. THEY DIDN'T EVEN ALLOW RALPH NADER AS A WRITE-IN. Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is how our democracy works...namely, it doesn't.
And don't mention Communism as an alternative, because it only works in an ideal world. And this world isn't ideal.
------------------
