Once again, am I popular?

It's called the newsbox and it works like a charm.

quote:
Originally posted by Tim Broderick:

Is that reasonable? I don't know. I can tell you this: I intend for Odd Jobs to be something to supplement my income when I retire. That's more than 25 years from now. The internet hasn't even figured out how to get people to pay for content yet (content that doesn't involve porn that is).
In the meantime, persevere, study your craft and improve in the areas you feel you want to improve in. Nate, just put
***keenspace_dropdown***
wherever you want. Preferably somewhere on your website, though.

October was my first full month on the Space, and I also got in on stuff like the Party 2001, Conspiracy, KS Top 100, and the newsbox. As I did I noticed that my numbers went up. I also learned that in the webcomic industry (and there's an oxymoron), there is no such thing as too much self-promotion.
So read my comic, dammit!
Matt
------------------

The most popular webcomic in both The Shire and Rivendell!
Second place in Mordor, but only behind The Family Circus.

No need to sweat about low numbers when you're first getting started, folks. AiS only had around 30 readers a day in its third month. Now it's through month 9 and getting 270 or more readers a day. If you've got a good comic, people will eventually start to notice it.
Erm... that's not to say that AiS is any good...
------------------

Tim:
the reason Nate is getting more visits than page views is pulled image files.
Nate has an image file that is being pulled by other sites. Possibly a top 100 list.
I recommend any pulled files be placed on a seperate server. That's what I do. My newsbox, banner and button files get pulled off my @home site.
------------------
Like um read it eh!

When I started Odd Jobs I was thrilled to get 150 readers a week. I hit more than 800 last week.
A lot of that's due to a couple of people (Clan of the Cats and Wandering Ones) linking to Odd Jobs cause they liked it and felt their readers would too. We're kind of in the same genre - story strips - so it works.
Seek out strips that are similar to your own and make contact. Nate, Questionable Tales reminds me a bit of Krazy Kat - you might want to talk to Jim from Algernon's Dilema - his strip reminds me of Lil' Abner. I'm not saying ask for a link, but ask for feedback and advice.
Keep making these kinds of links and your comic will grow.

------------------
