Actually, while we're on the subject, is there a chatroom, IRC or otherwise, where the Faans meet?
------------------

T said okay. I just have to make sure I make sense. *grumble* What next proper spelling. I suppose I should, like, take baths regularly too. (that's in good humor I swear)

Okay approximately sometime before daylight's saving but after reading my 2nd Necroscope book in two weeks I got the idea to do this. Which, for some reason, in my mind was a cute interesting post of the e...ex...of the distant relative of Faans, KODT. It was a Rate the gayness of the characters. Sort of a top ten list that mutated into a ranking.
Don't ask me why I thought it was cute or harmless. I guess in part because of what one person said here. Its been years and I've been fleshing out more and more of my collection and its amazing how much yet how little we know about the Knights and company. For instance learning Weird Pete was a Dead Head was just plain freaky and I had horrific visions of "Goth Ashton." And, though its bogus of me, I am still in the denial/acceptance game of the fact Nitro Ferguson is black. That's just plain beyond stupid. However learning he was married and worse had a nephew had me clutch my heart. I mean they're breeding the wretched evil rpgers are breeding. Worse of all its a hybrid marriage. Mrs. Ferguson is a mundane, well doesn't rp. That can't be good.
I also just read the wonderful fan suggested story where Sara Felton plays a psychology game with the Knights. Using symbols and images we get a small pscho-analysis of the gang. The last and most explosive part was of course the body of water which equaled sexuality.
Yep I am pretty sure that's what set this all off in my head.
Okay. The first part of the disclaimer is finished. The second is simple. "Speculation" is one of my least favorite topics because they may at max contain a kernel of insight but cause too much uproar if you lose sight this is inconsequential thinking.
And so keep in mind there is no real "typical" anything- hopefully avoiding thought police implications- anyone you know could be gay, bi, fans, perfectly normal or aspiring lawyers. Just love them ya know. Well except for the lawyers fear them. Besides this is so arbitrary you might laugh as to what this means about me.
Okay
On with this excercise in self indulgent speculation. So what's the particularly score or "gaynesss" or whatever offfff
Knights:
BA Felton 2.0
I don't think he is much of an anything. His life is divided between ambitions of being a late night pizza manager and finally outsmarting Brian. Not to mention his psych eval was so dang heart breaking it makes me hate Nitro all the more. Poor BA still broken after all these years.
Final score: hmm an average but a loving hug as a parting gift
Bob and Dave
They are such a couple. They share the same stupid brain. Apart the homophobia between these two could take them to the negatives. But during the transgender stint it was scarey how they happily jumped at rolling johns. Besides the whole dice/big-ass sword deal... I mean c'mon.
final joined score a 4. Best friends for life but sometimes they just make ya wonder.
Brian Van Hoose 4.0
Admit it. He used to top this list. A kinda closested loner who seems not interested particularly in womenfolk he could be the eternal single guy who doesn't date for some reason. While at the same time having a sensitive side and with not just alot of walls about it but spikes and those things you pour boiling oil down. Okay maybe its me just overidentifying or me unable to find him anything but perfect and yummy but- Especially after the whole Alexis Marie affair- I wouldn't be surprised if he'd come out in an issue. But what a difference a few years/issues make. I mean if there's any doubt as to his heart being staked to one member of the Felton clan (and no not Boris) after the whole Dorm Troopers arc some time back. . . Well, I mean little by little you get to see how he's nuts about Sara. Though he's no softy. Robbing from your would be's char..I don't think that's good.
Sara Felton 4.0
It is a credit to my own pigheadedness I was thinking about this. Not interested in the guys around her, short hair, very "proffessional"...*shakes head* Meaning of course I have issues. Still I just couldn't believe she didn't see a good thing, ie Brian, and jump on it. Perhaps she wasn't as sure about Alexis as she acted during The Great Intervention. I for some strange reason however always think women are more okay things that would get a guy landed in a dumpster when involving each other. So- yeah pretty sexiest- she gets the 'female' average.
Black Hands
Nitro Ferguson
I once read how people didn't want Obsidian of the JSA to be considerred gay because of the whole he's a villain thing and that would be wrong. I'll stick with that wisdom here.
G-Factor null but Evil Incarnation of 6.66 years have slowly taught him better
Newt Forager
"Goth-boy" as he's called could probably be straighter than nothing. Have a pal at work who got married recently. Wore makeup and dress and long sleeved ruffly shirt to his wedding. I have pictures and am not making this up. Being so young I give him a 5 as could be ac/dc gay or straight but it doesn't matter. He's the Anakin Skywalker of Muncie let's pray he stays good and learns from Nitro's mistakes not immitate them.
Weird Pete 6.59 (inflated score)
Mind if this list was "incarna of gaming gawds with multiple manifestions even in a single town" he'd top it at a hundred. The character by himself is nothing if not something of an achetype. He abitrarily loses points for me hating Dead Heads. But gains at least four for having an attitude like one guy I was checking out- cashier remember- one night. He said he came at midnights he hated crowds especially kids. I then stumbled over the fact he was 12 years with a partner. Don't ask how other than it involved ice-cream.
Both guys give off a bitter and gruff persona and can be very particular about minor details and how to run things. Not quite a Weird Pete in appearance but he had the spirit. 'Sides, give him a few years then more hair there and less there and more there and voila...
Like Weird Pete the thought of actually playing an RPG with this guy would set me on a feeling of dread.
Also both guys have an oddball pet. The guy a diabetic cat and Pete a smoking, drinking monkey.
> Bitter Stevil
I'd bestow on him the reputation of a ten and through this ineffable jerk back in the pen. But outside of being the worlds a-class jerk I'd go for 4. don't ask me why I just do.. it makes no sense. Just feels right.
Gordo 9 at least
Ack....I think its best to be ... no this is wrong I mean there's nothing "wrong" not that anything's wrong.. I mean okay female characters mean nothing, fine..no its a pixie-fairy and they are just a cool species but just that uhm.. well no nevermind.. I mean just cause your character is having an affair with a guy doesn't mean...but still okay this is a sorta until proven otherwise for me.
The Gawd Andy Warhol 11.0
Cause duh. Mind you All things Nitro have me running the other way of complete and utter shut out. Though I eventually came across the name two more times from two different sources. That's a cue for my "omen, reasearch due now" rule. I soon rented deliverance and did a little reasearch on the late Warhol. Tiny actually. Then I asked about Andy Warhol at work. Fellow Hackmaster player to be said "Creepy gay artist or something in New York. ... No I mean it him that was creepy you have to see a picture of him" I know I'd heard the name Before Nitro (when life was simple and safe). so I was pleasingly surprised to discover the varied tastes in Gawds and Celebs of mister Ferguson. Mind you outside some very very basic descripts and no pictures of him or his work (he did the multiple heads of Madonna right? in the different colors? right?) I got nothing. I thought maybe he was an actor in Deliverance .. hey I'm behind on me Movies All Official Geeks Must Watch alright I'm getting stuff for my move.
Still he gets a 10 simply for being a gay geeker in life and now continuing as such via the demented Nitro in death. And I must admit I can't help but catch myself saying "I am the dice man"
Thus he gets one point for cool.

----
Feel free to add, criticising take away or adjust scores.
Oh also don't have to limit to KODT if ya want.

I would rate Brian higher, I think he's going for the "safe" girl of Sara in order to maintain his self-denial.
I would kick Dave up a few notches as well, not only does he have the whole big-ass sword but he avoids contact with the rather attractive female DM who obviously has a thing for him.
For that matter Bob one time mentioned fleeing a woman who was chasing after him as well.
I dunno about expanding this topic to Fans! tho, might start ruffling a few more feathers of those that identify (just a tad) with the respective characters and don't care to have aspersions cast on thier alter-egos as to sexual preference. But since I can't remember anyone laying claim to Tim and Alison I would rate Tim as having a very strong case for homosexuality, close companions have all been male: thack, Guth; and of course there is his response to Will's request for help at the start of the Ring Chord story....
Alison is definitly not gay, but I would be totally unsuprised if she ended up being Bi, maybe someday T will do a crossover with Bruno.
As for the others, well I think I'll save that can of worms for another day.

In short Khavren, Nitro is everything my dad feared when I asked to rpg. Between him seriously endangering and near killing one of his group mates he's definitely wrong and scarey. The thought of him reproducing scares me and the thought of him mentoring even more. He's so scarey for awhile I wouldn't read anything with the black hands, but since I liked the fairy meat stints with PEte GMing and Pete was GMing the Hands for a bit.
Besides Nitro once said Newt reminded him of himself when he was younger and has taken him under his wing. Very very scarey.

I hadnt' forgotten Shanna and her confusion, but I actually think she's straight, and is usuing sexuality confusion as a means of covering up her far less mainstream fiction desires. I picture something like a stepping stone of Shanna chasing first Kath, then Kath and Will together then finally admitting that is she both straight and into SF&F.

Nitro is a big intimidating looking person but he's usually shown as a physical coward, Bob at half his size beat him down and he's only physical attack that I can recall is him slapping Gary, not the most impressive of actions. His revenge on Bob was to convince them to go to a rough bar, a place he obviously thought was so violent that merely getting them inside would be enough for revenge. He seems the kind of guy who would be totally dominated by his 4 foot 90 pound wife, having very little impact on the raising of his kids. I actually find Flack Jack Monty alot more frighting in concept. That sense of psychoctic violence that he has is more unnerving. Notwithstanding how our opinions of Nitro's fear level differ, why does his proximity affect your assesment of sexuality?

In terms of the actual topic at hand, I would rate all of the black hands as fairly straight apart from poor Gordo. I'll have to re-read my KotD to get descriptions of the other minor characters to judge.

Hmm it does? I hadn't realised.
I only have maybe two issues of Flak Jak's appearance. He reminded me of a Rotsie wannabe.
Nitro doesn't affect the scores of others just so much as their lives.
Hmm...probably cause this is a very unserious and not on target post. and oddly enough upon reflection out of the entire cast minus Bridget he's the most "sexual"

Tim has hit on both men and women in the comic, and would most likely describe himself as "omnisexual." How much of this is genuine hedonism and how much is purely for shock value is unclear from what's been provided so far. We've never seen anyone take Tim up on his offers so we don't know how he'd respond to genuine opportunity.
Kath has identified herself as "straight."
Will and Rikk have both had heterosexual relationships.
Alisin is currently in a heterosexual relationship, but was intrigued by the idea of Rikk being bisexual (see "The Most Dangerous Game") and it's been implied that she has had gay relationships (possibly longterm, possibly of only a few minutes' duration) in the past.
Rumiko has expressed interest in both human males and genderless aliens. Any speculation that her conflict with Alisin indicates an underlying attraction is probably just idle eechi fanboy fantasy.
Katherine has said that Meighan is interested in women, though the comic has not established whether she is exclusively gay or bisexual.
Of course, most of our characters haven't had an opportunity for a homosexual relationship in our stories, so you never know what might happen.
Maccabee, who does not have a huge collection of slash faanfic on his hard drive.

------------------
