And not to mention the myriad possibilities embodied in action figures! Think! Rumiko with Karate-Fighting Action! Katherine, with Mind-Control Crown! Tim, with Massive Collection of Hentai! Jones, with...um...Chain-Smoking Habit!
------------------

When I say merchandise, I'm thinking T-shirts, hats, maybe a tote bag? Along the lines of what Carson's got at ElfLife.

Not to be harsh, but Carson's currently passing the hat around, so to speak. It usually takes a non-trivial investment up front to offer things like that. Maritza appears to be able to do it, but CRFH! is unusually popular. I don't know how well Fans! is doing (and I'm not asking), but it's something to consider.
That said, I'll take a T-shirt too if they're offered. Or a mug.

Actually, both Cars and I are going with CafePress, which requires no initial investment. Unfortunately of course, that means they take most of the profit. But it's a good way to put merchandise out there.
As for other things, I'm offering the CRFH CD, and I did have to invest in that...
Maritza

Virtually every single webcomic poll I find on the net seems to put CRFH as number 1, but then that can be pretty misleading I guess.
*Sigh* I do wish PvP and Sluggy Freelance well, and I do read them of course, but I think there are other webcartoonists who deserve a little more attention then they do.

Certainly we all want the two of you to make more money for what you're doing on Fans! and CRFH, but also we (well, I at least) just want to show our fandom. Plus, by doing that we become walking promotions for the strips and increase readership.
On a related note, does Fans! have a banner? I'm one of the losers who doesn't have a page to put it on, but I've got friends and connections who would all be glad to support you.
(And to carry the merchandising idea even further

Well, we did joke about an action figure line once upon a thread. I think I transferred it to Billberg if anyone still wants to look.
I really like the idea of a Xenochiclet throw pillow line. Plenty of different colors! Name them all!
I do think that it'd be cool to have some T-Shirts. Maybe the logo on the front corner and some shot, like the cover of issue one (w/ Alisin?) on the back? I can think of TONS of other designs that'd be cool.
Hmmmm..........

------------------

The problem here is that Fans! and CRFH both are part of a subculture that very few people are aware of. Webcomics, apart from Scott McCloud's, are rarely mentioned in major news outlets (and his get as many attacks as compliments). CRFH gets the banner ads through Keenspot, and Fans! doesn't even get that. If we want them to survive, we've got to spread the word outside.
Right now we're a community, but a very inbred one. We talk with each other, but we might as well be talking to ourselves. We're navel-gazing, preaching to the converted. If there's any way for Fans! and CRFH (and any other webcomic, for that matter) to get mentioned anywhere offline, we ought to jump at the chance. T-shirts, posters, print ads

Boy, EWHPTIV, you do know how to motivate.
I don't think Scott's gotten nearly as much bad press as good overall... it's just that the bad's been pronounced this year.
Because you and several others asked for it...

I'[m actually very glad this came up.. I've been fighting with the temptation to make some Fans! fan art into a t-shirt for about.. oh.. six months now. I havn't quite got the fan art -done- yet, so it hasn't been a major ethics issue, but if there was an 'offical' shirt, I could give my aching moral compass a rest. I'm all for some merchendising!
-Wish
