I'm scheduled to give blood next Monday evening - the earliest the blood bank could take me.
The way that so many people have rallied to help and support each other breaks my heart. It's exactly the sort of indomitable generosity and optimism that makes me proud to live here.

I couldn't get into the blood drive yesterday. It was packed with so many people that they had to close at five-thirty... and expected to be working to ten-thirty. I was able to donate socks to the burn victims, and I'll be back to give when the Red Cross returns on Monday.
Let me repeat that statement: there were so many people at the mall's blood drive that there was a FIVE-HOUR WAIT. There almost wasn't enough ROOM at the mall for the line. I almost didn't have room to PARK.
I'm proud to live in America.
The lines to donate in Austin, TX are just as long. The workers at Red Cross have been working through lunch and going to 10:30. Local restaurants are donating food for the workers to have lunch in.
I talked to the Red Cross and because I have a cold they want me to wait till next week. My office building is organizing a blood drive in the building next week, so I will give then.
--Tuscahoma
