Opportunity for an Artist (with Pay)

Yes, I *am* still on vacation. But something quite extraordinary happened on Friday, just before I left...The site that I edit as a day job, <A HREF="http://parenthood.com" TARGET=_blank>Parenthood,</A> has fallen increasingly under my control after my superior, ahem, "went freelance." (This control may not last after she's replaced, so time is of the essence.) I've been able to get the vice-president of the company at least interested in the IDEA of a serial graphic feature. And since I also distribute the freelance budget, I can also see to it that the artist is paid some variation of my usual $30 page rate. (Example: if we end up doing one-panel gags which I write, I can pay $30 for a set of five, and probably more if the feature takes root...)You can see where this is going, can't you?

Parenthood.com is a online publication for parents, especially expecting parents and parents of 0-to-2-year olds. It features about a 50-50 ratio of humor and practical tips. (The humor pieces do tend to skew a bit older.)Those who've followed me for a while know that I love doing comics of all types and styles, so I'd like to be pitching "gag strips" a la BABY BLUES and more practical strips in a more realistic format. Other possibilities include a sort of ironic "children's book for adults" theme like that Dr. Seuss book about aging.Upon my return from this vacation, I'll be bringing in artist's portfolios and feature suggestions that I think will be appropriate for each artist. Suggestions for the features to pitch are welcome as well.My online time is limited down here, so I won't be able to review samples immediately.
