This afternoon, March 22, 2001, a great man passed from this world. Today, William Hanna, a great mind and talent in the world of animation and co-founder of the animation studio Hanna-Barbera, shrugged off this mortal coil. According to CNN, he died at home with his wife of 65 years at his side. Mr. Hanna was well known for the many cartoon characters created by himself and Mr. Joseph Barbera, such as Tom and Jerry and The Flintstones.
Another piece of our collective childhood has slipped quietly into that long night. We'll miss you, Mr. Hanna. Thank you for making us laugh.
-Wish

Well *I* was having a terrible week, but this still stands out as very sad news. I fondly remember spending too many hours watching Hanna-Barbera cartoons. 'tis sad.
Thanks for passing on the news, wish.

This has not been a good year for aging cartoonists. First Carl Banks, and now this...
Thor

On the other hand, cartoonists seem to be much longer-lived (to say nothing of having longer careers) than filmmakers, actors, and especially musicians. I mean, jeez, Carl lived to be 100, and Charles worked a successful strip for 49 years...
