QUOTE>I think a big part of the appeal of Fans is that we all see a little of ourselves and our fellow fen in the characters there. Not only does everybody know a Tim, but in some ways all of us are a little like Tim. I don't know anyone who fits the group as well as your ex apparently does, but I do have a friend who seems an aweful lot like what we've seen of Guth so far (aside from the fact that people occaisonally pronounce his name correctly!). I suspect that this is the same appeal all of the geek-themed comics (Kowalski's "The Three Geeks", Kovalic's "Dork Tower", and Blackburn's "Knights of the Dinner Table" come to mind). I guess the really short answer to your question is "no".

I'll second that. There's no way at all I can answer Wish's question fairly, since all of the characters take a lot from me or my immediate experience. Rumy's more unusual traits (expatriot Japanese, martial-arts schoolgirl) were added during her development, primarily to keep her from turning into a T Campbell clone.

Mind, Rikk is far from perfect. His idealism often blinds him to the thornier, more complicated side of issues... he wasn't expecting Katherine's attempted coup, Alisin's love game, or Will to actually fire. This kind of thing is a much more serious handicap in real life situations, too...

If no one liked him at all, T wouldn't be doing his job. Just don't ask me to join in.-Wish

Yes, I can spot similiarities between them and people I know, but I could do the same with my friends and, say, the characters on Friends.Nicolas
