Current events for the beginning of 2002 have proven-- financially tumultuous. Due to this tumult, I am issuing an offer to interested fans.
Let me explain.
I have a cat.
Said cat is incredibly finicky. Will beg for everything, but once given will not eat it. Fish. Chicken. Turkey. Hamburger. Steak. Milk. Icecream. Sniff sniff sniff, this wasn't what I expected... oh well, back to my dry cat food.
And then one day when I wasnt home, Mr. Finicky fished himself a light snack out of my *sewing kit.*
The vet successfully removed the thread and needle from his digestive tract via surgery, and cat is recuperating in the animal hospital. My already wounded finances, however, are now on life support.. perforated by about $300+ in vet bills.
As part of my efforts to patch those gaping holes in my wallet, I am offering something novel--
*commissioned cameos* in both Nip and Tuck, and Under the Lemon Tree.
Here's the deal: For $35, plus $5 to cover postage, handling and other incidentals, I will feature your character in a special, 1-shot cameo on either of my comic strips. It will be a full-color, *hand* colored comic strip as well, on quality bristol board... and, once scanned and paid for, you get the original artwork to keep. (You will also be notified ahead of time when the comic will come up in queue.)
I don't know how long I'll be doing this, but if you're interested, email me at lonelyblue27a@hotmail.com and we'll set it up.

------------------

Another idea for you to consider: selling the original artwork for regular strips, or are you saving those for a possible future book?
Ron
Heh. Only one problem with selling current original work---
It's all on graph paper.
Yes, I use graph paper, 8.5x11 (stone the infidel!!!) to draw my strips on. I also use nonphoto blue pencil, and GOBS of whiteout... the paper is cheaper, and lends itself better to keeping lines straight and letters even and characters proportional... but the resulting original artwork is appallingly unfit for anything but copying from, ironically.
I'm currently dialoguing, tho, with plan 9 publishing about printing up a Year One book... yet to be seen, tho.
------------------

Ralph, sorry to hear about your cat, and I guess you do need some kind of financial support through this tough time.
As for distributing copies of your comics in books, it would be a great idea. Only, I have to confess that online-shopping isn't my cup-o'-tea, because it's not a good idea to give personal info (eg. credit card numbers, etc., which can easily get abused) over the Internet. So I do hope that such books could be available at various bookstores. Oh but since it's character cameos you're referring to and whoever gets to keep copies, I may have to pass on my behalf.
Thank you for considering my idea, to mostly steer clear of really costing an arm and a leg.
[This message has been edited by Jamie Jalecki (edited 01-06-2002).]

Sorry about things being so hard for you, Ralph. As for your offer, I might think about that... I've often considered getting some comissions done of Stoker, but this would be even cooler! And since I have drawn one decent pic of him online (Shameless plug time! http://www.side7.com/cgi-bin/S7SDB/Disp ... ?INO=40766), I have a quick visual reference for artists who'd like to draw him.
I'll definitely keep this in mind, Ralph. About how long are you going to be doing this?
------------------

Jamie - generally, any furry con will have at least one dealer selling Plan 9's strip collections off their table in the dealers' room, so you can probably get one there...
In my experience, though, purchasing stuff online is about as "risky" as any other credit-card transaction... i.e. not terribly, as long as you take a few simple precautions and know who you're dealing with. I've bought all kinds of merchandise via credit card over the net, and have yet to have any of my personal info hijacked...
The most important precautions are (1) make sure their sales transactions are done through a secure connection (Opera has a little "padlock" icon in the corner of the window to indicate this; I'm sure Internet Exploder and Netscrape must have something similar), and (2) keep records of your transactions and report any discrepancies on your credit-card statement immediately.
