Well, you have a browser that can view those images. If you're using MSpaint I pity you. So go download GIMP for windows. GIMP is free and just as powerful as Adobe Photoshop. You'll probaly need some help with it, and the best book I've found is Grokking the GIMP, which is online here (I still haven't gotten a hard copy of it). Enjoy!
------------------

There is a special way you can get some nice Adobe products for free... but I shouldn't be mentioning it, right? (heh heh heh!)
As for Gimp, yeah, good program, interface is a little messy, takes a while to get used to it, but eventually you'll learn to use it. MS Paint is pretty bad... I could never draw w/ that thing.
-Albrecht http://ntnation.keenspace.com

Personally, I found MSpaint to be quite good as part of package: GIMP and Photoshop 5.0 (tryout) for colour, text, and effects, Xnview for batch conversion and Gifs (GIMP doesn't support them), and Paint for screen grabs, cleaning up my B/W scans, and adding pixel-perfect borders.
As a sole-solution for comics tho', no way.

GIMP does support GIFs by default, just without LZW compression (the source of all the legal trouble). You can even download the LZW enabled plugin, but they say it's your job to make sure you're not breaking the law. I've had some trouble with the color reduction not coming out as well as I wanted, but that's really not it's fault.
------------------

Making sure of course, that you're saving in 256 colour or grayscale mode if you're using PNG instead of Gif. True colour images are better in Jpeg (jpg) if you don't mind a little loss.
------------------
