Yeah, I have the first Project A-koand the next three OAVs, and the first movie is the best one.
BTW Monk, if you are looking for my elias Ukyo Kuonji, she doesn't show up until the 3rd season of the TV show (Hard Battle).

Whoo!
Well, I got me some more anime to watch this week -- Photon #1-6 and Ranma 1/2 #1-18, so I should be okay for a few days...
And it turns out that they do have Kare Kano, but it was listed under the name "His and Hers Circumstance"...
Man, but I really do think that their claim to the largest anime collection in North America might not be bunk at all now! There were a few representatives from other Maritime anime clubs there tonight, to check out what Fredericton had to offer, and they couldn't believe the amount of availablt titles!
But the guy who runs the club here is still trying to acquire more and more, so he's sending out feelers everywhere, and nowI'm a pawn of his scheme to own every single anime title in the world...
SO... do any of you know of any local clubs with immense anime collections? If so, let me know so I can let him know, and etc. etc.

I'm not a big Anime fan but I have a friend and a relative that are. I like the following series:
Evangelion: The best I've seen.
Macross Plus: Pretty good, nice art, typical Anime/Top Gun feeling as opposed to a Ghost In the Shell typical Anime/Bladerunner feeling.
Goldenboy: Slightly perverted but incredibly funny, who'd have thought Anime could actually be funny.
Tyler Martin

Don't forget:
Cowboy Bebop!
Apparently, according to my friend, I am going to see the funniest episodes in existence for this series at UTARPA this Friday!

Well, I'm not very into anime, but I wish I were. Here's pretty much just the stuff I've seen:
Serial Experiments Lain:
You absoutely *must* see this thing. A bit slow with all the imagery going on, but worth it. A warning though, unless you speak Japanese, the subbed version is kinda easy to get lost on the first time around. (I got the DVDs, so I put it in dubbed mode to figure out what the heck was going on)
Kare Kano:
Seen the first few episodes, and have become addicted. Having problems getting anymore though.
Princess Mononoke (sp?):
This one is playing on the local campus TV station. I rather liked it.
Anyway, I'd like to see some more of this stuff, but it is rather hard to acquire around here. I can't afford to buy much of a big series, and bad 'ol Blockbuster is the only rental shop in town, and they don't have much of anything.
--

Only Akira can compare i think.
If you get the chance watch it, it's great.
-Off again

(From the Shadows emerges Davos.)
After scouring this entire topic, I must reply to these.
Escaflowne: Vwaa hahar! It was on Fox29, but they`ve stopped showing it. It may come back in February. And, (here`s the irony) YTV is still airing Escaflowne: Monday @7:30 PM EST. Glad I live in South Ontario. Heheh. YTV also shows Dragonball Z and Gundam Wing. Teletoon shows every now and then an anime film. I missed Macross Plus. Damn.
damonk, and anyone else, if you need more of a general dose, there' always my notoriously evil links page. It has a few anime links, including to the ftp where you can download entire movies and episodes as well as mp3s! (That's how I was able to watch Mononoke Hime (Really good! No sex or nudity -lotsa gore though.)). Be warned however, you'll need a cable modem or equivalent to download these files. Enjoy!

Text Only links page: http://dk.keenspace.com/linksto.htm
Hope that helps.
And now a quote from my friend:

I just.... can't... stand... the PLOT!!!!!!
::sigh:: Oh, My Neighbor Totoro. Will I ever grow tired of you? I showed my boyfriend it, and he thought it was too cute. But that's the CHARM!!!!!!!!!! Kiki's was a classic, too. ^_^ I have yet to see Mononoke, but oh man do I ever want to. Studio Ghibli puts out the best animes.

As I type this, I am watching Vision of Escaflowne ~~ I'm up to Episode 16, and damn, but it's just INCREDIBLE!!!!
When I come down from this state of absolutle awe, I'll say a few more things about this, and the other anime series that I've watched over the past two weeks...
SHIT! I don't know if I'll find something as good as Escaflowne now! I should have listened to your advice, Josh, and waited... I may have ruined everything else out there for me now.

It's all about...
Sailor Moon - You MUST get the subtitled version. The dubbed version is absolutely horrible - they manage to turn it from a beautiful fantasy with deep storylines into a humungous piece of crap for 12-year-old girls.
Ranma 1/2 - Just plain silly. Be sure to watch the Martial-Arts Skating Trilogy - it's the funniest!!!! The Xmas episode is really cool, too.
Slayers Next - Actually, ALL the Slayers (Slayers, Slayers Next, Slayers Try, and Slayers Royal) are awesome, but Slayers Next has the most Xellos, who's my favorite character. ^_^
Also, to whoever asked if Bubblegum Crisis was any good -- it's amazing. The animation is wonderful, the mecha is great - the characters are a bit one-dimensional, except for Nene, who gets a lot of character development.
Also, regarding Bastard!! - am I missing something????? I hated it!! I sit through it during anime club just so me and my friends can MST3K it. Sir Bonjovinan??? Give me a break!!! Well, everyone has his own opinion. Maybe I'm missing something crucial.

OK.
Quick roundup of my past two weeks' worth of anime binging:
1) Pocket -- Absoutely brilliant. The art is wonderful, Pocket himself is uber-cool, and it's funny as all get-out! It kept me sane in the middle of writing that evil Bardic paper...
2) Bastard -- Also a lot of fun! I liked Dark Schneider's character; he made a cool anti-hero! Agai, the art was pretty sweet!
3) Dominion Tank Police -- Funky! A bit choppy at times, as if they tried to pack to much stuff in only four episodes, but cool nonetheless! The bad guy's character evolution was very nicely handled!
4) Bakuretsu Hunters[/i] -- So cool I had to watch the entire series twice over! My god, but I liked how it was handled! The plot and subtext were woven so expertly, with little hints here and there popping up everywhere without ever being too intrusive, or too elusive! Definitely one of my favorites to date, and likely for a good while!!
5) Ranma 1/2 -- Geez, but this is funny! I watched the first season (18 episodes), and tho i've been told that it's the best seasone of them all, i'll likely get the others, if only to see Ucchan's alter ego in action!
6) Vision of Escaflowne -- This series has almost had me in tears at some points, it's so good!!!! It's got all the classic elements of a good fanatsy epic, and sometimes seems to get as twisty as Josh Phillips' Avalon can get! I'm still not finished yet, but man I'm loving it...
.......
I've also got Neon Genesis Evangelion here, which I'll start waching right after I finish Escaflowne...
(and Kare Kano, and Vampire Princess Miyu)

All I have to say is that you guys have made some great suggestions so far! I'm incredibly appreciative!!
Thanks again, folks!!

Bastard! is hilarious. I love all of the heavy metal names that pop up... the demon Anthrathrax, the kingdom of Metallicana, the Slayer spell, etc. My favorite part is when Dark Schneider attacks the priest with "Slayer" and the priest counters with "Striper" (a Christian metal band). I've only seen the sub though, they may have changed that in the dub.
And if you like Bastard! you'll like Bakuen Campus Guardess for sure. See if you can find a copy. "Look out, Mr. Groceries!" "Good save, Mr. Porno Books!"
Neon Genesis Evangelion, nothing more needs to be said.
Urusei Yatsura is great. It makes CRFH!!! look normal and pedestrian. It's done by the same artist as Ranma, but it's much wilder and less sappy. Start with the TV series, most of the OAVs and movies happen later on in the chronology.
Almost anything by Miyazaki is good. I happen to like Princess Mononoke a lot, but My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Lupin the Third: Castle of Cagliostro are all good. Look for the sub of Lupin, the dub changes some dialog for Goemon the Samurai and ruins his character. For example: when Goemon slices off Lupin's burning suit as he falls into their little VW Bug, Goemon in the original says "Once more my sword has cut something useless", but in the dub he says "Should've worn an asbestos suit!" :P
Fist of the North Star is fun for absolutely gratuitous violence, but it's not what I'd call "good".
Hmm...
Video Girl Ai and DNA^2 are fun, but the endings are pretty bad.
Bubblegum Crisis (the old one, I haven't seen the new one) is awesome.
------------------

Can't get into Sailor Moon. The art style does nothing for me, and the plot is pretty much generic "magical girl" genre stuff.
Princess Mononoke is great. However, you'll miss out on the best part of seeing it in the theatres: watching some parent who'd brought their little kids with them gasp the first time someone's head is shot off by the main character with a bow and arrow! Far, far too many parents assumed it was a kids' movie. What part of "PG-13" did they not understand?
Another great series: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Action/adventure that defies description. Suffice to say that the main characters all have a spirit (called a "stand") associated with them that gives them powers. The fight in the desert against the blind guy who can kill people with tendrils of water (which, incidentally, flows easily through sand) is awesome, really suspenseful--and has shades of both "The Abyss" and "Tremors". The title comes from the leader of the heroes, Jotaro Joestar (whose stand is "Star Platinum"), and his father Joseph (whose stand is "Hermit Purple"). Oh, and one of the good guys is a Boston Terrier named Iggy (not a talking dog, but he does have a stand, "The Fool"). He likes to fart on people's faces. Iggy rules.
I liked Ranma for a while, but I got tired of it. Basically, the formula is: any time the Akane/Ranma romance seems to be going anywhere, introduce a new character who
a) hates one of the Ranmas, or
b) loves one of the Ranmas
Usually some combination of the two, bonus points if they practice an oddball martial art. It gets old after a while. However, as a diehard Avalon fan, Damonk would probably enjoy the Insane Ever-Expanding Love Polygon from the Depths of Hell. I prefer Urusei Yatsura, because it throws all pretense of making sense out the window. And Lum is cute, damn it all!
------------------

Hey Damonk, I just ran into something you have got to see: Oh! My Goddess
This thing is just so unbearably cute that it evokes an immense desire to go frolic about through a flowery garden. The sense of humor is oh-so-very off the wall and in tune with yours. You have got to get this thing.
--
