What other places are good to host your comic?

Post by peterabnny »

The whole discussion about wars between CG and Keenspace and the future of the CG forums (and probably CG itself in a way) had me wondering: what other free webcomic hosting outfits are there out there that people like or would recommend?

I'm always up for new places to add my comics to. I need all the attention and coverage I can get. Figure I can't be the only one...

Interesting of you to bring this up, I have a mirror site on Smackjeeves but was recently wondering if I should direct them to just one site. To those with mirror sites, are there benefits to having more than just one site?

I used to have my comic on smackjeeves. It was too much work trying to keep up with two sites at the same time. And back then they didn't allow bulk uploads like we do.

My opinion - it's just more work on your hands. If you're one of the people who's already struggling to keep up with their comic, then forget it. Focus on one site. Redirect from other places like DeviantART or your business card, or other people's comics.

I should start linking you guys in my site. I have NO links whatsoever in my Links page.

I'll always be a card carrying member of the 'Comic Dish is Awesome' club.

That place took me in when my previous (and first) 'proper' hosting site buggered me around and they were fantastic, and are still a fun, friendly community. Also... no ads!!

I would still be with them hosting wise (I haven't updated the strip there for so many months and months, alas), had Spiderforest not offered me a spot. It's well worth a look.

I technically haven't got School Spirit mirrored anywhere now that the Comic Dish site is a couple of hundred updates behind, but I've never really looked to have a mirror either. I don't know whether they're worth the extra effort.

I agree that mirror sites are a major pain in the doopa. I don't even remember how to update *here*.

They're even worse when you have more than one comic... bad memories.

Best advice is just get a .com and either point it somewhere or get paid webspace. Unless you have 1000+ regular readers mirrors are pretty unnecessary.

Really? It takes me a blink to update over there. Then again I don't bulk update (or havent in a while but that was a special case) because it's kind of go-as-it-goes, update-as-finished. It takes a twiddlebit longer than it takes me to update here, but nothing oppressive. But different strokes, I suppose.

ETA: For what it's worth, whenever I try to drum up interest, I always direct people to this site at comicgenesis. It's the only one that's properly furnished at this time, and I also feel a patriotic loyalty to it for some reason.

SJ is alright... most automated features are even more intuitive to use than here, i gotta say.
Tho, the only reason i'm publishing my comic there is because i'd rather dedicate my time to the actual comic rather than designing the webpage around it, so, for the moment, i can live with their templates. When i'll get the webpage design i'll move everythign here.

Their forums appear more populated and bot-free... but they don't do jams there.

They have very quiet, tentative semi-jams, but are far too good natured about it :P And I caught a bot on their forums! But it was a very specific, highly specialized, and very well-educated bot that posted something that made absolute sense in its context, and I wouldn't have caught on to anything had I not checked the user info.

My main site is hosted on WebcomicsNation. I should go over there and maintain it right now, haven't done it in years.
