I'd like to say thanks to Kisai for all the work on wrestling this new version into submission.

I'm currently viewing the forum on a 1024x768 monitor and the forums look fine.

Well done! :D

I can confirm at 1024 the prosilverCG is properly formatting in Firefox/Linux.

For reading the forums, I apply a stylesheet that makes avatars slightly smaller, makes the background black and the text white (throughout), removes signatures (ie "personal ad space"), and increases the size of the poster's name above their avatar.

I'll have to check if there's a thread about the bug where topic notifications keep linking me to forums.keenspace.com (which always makes me log in).

Kisai wrote:Since both are floating, you have to specifiy a width, otherwise they will float on top of each other. So when your window is set to less than the width defined, the rendering model moves whichever appears later in the code beneath. In this case, it's set to 25/75 , 25% for the profile, 75% for the content. The scroll bar then appears when you reduce it beyond the ad.

In the fixed tables, subsilver, since the profile code actually comes before post content, even if you turn off the css, it's still in the order expected. So you can actually reduce the browser width down to 800 pixels without the horizontal scroll bar appearing.
Why not give the post 220px left padding, width: auto; , and position: relative; - then absolute position the profile to the left side? It might take an extra container div or two, but it should work at 800x600 - maybe lower. It's what i tend to do when i want a fixed width next to an elastic width... thing.

I'd really like it if the top comicgenesis header was smaller - it's always seemed to be unneccicarily huge to me.

Well the header has to be larger than the ad, but maybe streamlining it by making it somewhat smaller can be considered. I do not want the font or colours changed for the base theme.

In phpBB2 the subsilver base theme was always present because it had been that way a long time and people objected to switching to the CG colour theme straight off. This is also why the Wiki's theme has never been changed.

For phpBB3 I originally wanted someone to come up with a CG theme FIRST, but then the spam bots had me wasting too much time patching BB2 so I decided we should switch to phpBB3 and damn the consequences.

I have some base rules for themes anyway:
- You can suggest a colour scheme/theme using colorizeit.
- Theme must include the images.

Keep in mind that the themes do not support all features, as most of the BB3 themes were developed while BB3 was in alpha and had more in common with phpBB2. Likewise with modifications.

If it's okay with everyone, please suggest:
- Keep 100x100 avatars
- Bump up slightly to 125x125 (I've noticed that this amount of slack is visible regardless of the theme)
- Bump up to 150x100 (slightly wider)
- Bump up to 200x100
We kinda use a 'standard' 100x100 in that most forums use anywhere between 60x60 and 200xundefined.
Originally I used to allow hotlinked avatars, and then after people broke the tables with them or changed them (BB3 checks the size of remote avatars and is MUCH slower when enabled to do this, BB2 didn't) I opted to just make sure all the avatars are uploaded to the forums. That said, most people are moving to wide screens, not tall screens, so wider makes more sense than taller. However not everyone reads the forums using the full width of their screens. So on posts with more than 500 characters, there is a huge chunk of white space that can be filled up that I don't want to fill up with ads for non-CG related stuff. It could be possible to have a "B" avatar or "B" links that apply just to the (specific) forum or something. I like to make theoretical plans, but seldom follow through. (By "B" I mean alternate, like how we had the alternate post count for forum games... which I need to go fix, it's counting, but not displaying.)

I don't mind about avatar size. It simply depends how large and freaky people want my grinning face.

A hundred square is fine.

i don't mind the wider avatars, as long as it doesn't suck into the posts like it was when we first rolled it out. as it stands now its fine. and with the extra width, perhaps people can take advantage of the new dimensions.

Yep, sometimes the topic reply notification emails link me to forums.comicgenesis.com, and sometimes forums.keenspace.com, and if they link to forums.keenspace.com, it logs me out.

I think what it was for me, was the old forum remembered the cookie data from *.keenspace and *.comicgenesis. where the new one only reads from CG. I emptied my cookies and replaced the bookmark with the comicgenesis... and seems to be holding steady now.

Luckily new messages still stay marked as new even if you log out, neh?

Generally I always have at least three tabs open - often more. Adding several CG tabs to the mix won't help me.
Unless the dropdown menu was really slowing things down, I don't see why it had to die.

I usually keep three tabs for the CG forums, one of OT, one of GD, and the Board Index. That's usually it. If I find myself browsing my other forum, I usually open a new browser window exclusively for that and open everything else in the other one.
yeahduff wrote:"Tabbing?"
Firefox, and recently Internet Explorer as well, allow you to open more than one window (called tab) in your browser window, thus avoiding cluttering up your task bar.
