If I had a buffer I would start to slack off. Right now I have no choice but to stay disciplined because I don't want to miss my deadlines and lose readers.
I had a decent buffer, but since I've been sick (and incredibly lazy) I've used it up and am now in a negative state (I owe todays comic and tomorrow I'll owe two comics... gotta crawl back on top!

Yeah, you still have to work to maintain it, but having insurance is DAMN nice.
I used to be at least 3 strips ahead which was a decent buffer for me. But university work gets stressful so I fell behind. Summer time is perfect for a good ol buffer-raisin' party =D
