Nominations for the most bizarre anime

Post by MixedMyth »

It strikes me that there's a lot of really, really weird anime out there. Some of it I've found I like, some of it not. Ah me, the days when I thought Excel Saga was as weird as it got. That was before I saw FLCL or Jungle Guu, though.

Nevertheless, if I had to nominate one anime for being the strangest, I think I would hands down have to give it to Cat Soup. Man, that was creepy.

Anyone going to try to top it?

I dunno... weirdest thing I've seen is Akira... ^_^'
that looks like it tops it, though.

Weirdest thing in Akira is what, people melting?

Weirdest thing I ever saw was Perfect Blue, and that's not weird at all, by anime standards.

Meh.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

Off the top of my head, I'm gonna have to say "Digital Juice" (a collection of Studio 4C shorts). Maaan, some of that stuff was really freaking weird. There was one short - "In the Evening of a Moonlit Night" - that started out fairly normal, but then there was the girl chained to the chair with the guy licking her feet...

Actually, just about everything by that studio is strange - though I liked "Comedy"...

Yeah, Akira is less weird and more stupid than anything else. The anime, I mean. I hear the manga is a masterpiece.

*has both the movie and volume one of the Akira manga*

The movie would've been better if they'd broken it up into a couple movies. Gotten more of the exposition and background from the manga in.

And the NeoTokyo Empire!

I personally would not suggest watching Akira the anime. I think it sucks. Besides, if you're not into bleak sci-fi settings, I doubt you'd like it anyway.

Nothing compares to Bobobo bobo bobobobo (I might have added an extra bo i'm not sure) now that is insane. A black man with a golden afro who battles the evil hair cutting gang with his nostril hairs...

Next up is Club to death angel Dokuro Chan! The most bizzare thing I have ever watched. From it I learned that if you remove an angel's halo they end up having explosive diarrhea. :o

Legend of Black Heaven

Middle aged salary man defeats intergalactic alien space armada with the power of hard rock music.

It's also got a closing sequence with three naked girls in bed together and lyrics that inculde the phrases On my Knees, Ptooey Salty!, Love is an Insect, I Throw Out my Legs, Ugh So Tight!, Submerged like a Sea Slug and Where is the Pepsi Cola? :D

I need to finish watching this...

Haven't seen the anime (thank God) but I saw the manga preview in Shonen Jump.
That was enough.

Ooo. SOunds a bit like Shinesman...which was a great anime, btw.

Let's see, what is Cat Soup about? It's about a little kitten who tries to find his catatonic (heh) sister's soul. Or, the half that got torn off when he played tug of war with death. It involves a circus where the acrobats get chopped up into pieces (with blood spraying the audience....happily?), an elephant made of water traversing the desert, flowers made of steel blades, and, oh yes, God eating the Earth.

Jungle Guu (not it's full title) is about a boy on an idyllic tropical island and his adventures with a girl who eats everything. And I mean everything. She ate his entire class once. She's got a whole world inside of her. In one of the earlier episodes, the kid looked into her eyes and saw people waving back at him.

Both of them are done in a cute chibi style, although Cat Soup is in duller tones.....and is much more creepy.

Lets see...I watched this really odd anime a few years back called "I want to be an angel" (or something like that) about a boy who stumbles upon this mysterious halo'd girl in the woods and accidently kisses her(I think he falls on her) and is then told he has to marry her. Its a very silly anime that makes very little sense.

Sounds like half of all romantic comedy anime ever created. I mean, honestly, how many times have we seen a blundering protagonist fall on a girl "by accident?" I think that they've all found the secret to capturing a Japanese girl's heart and are just pretending not to know.

Legend of Black Heaven rocks! ...no pun intended.

I have to go with Bobo-bo-bo skippitidy-beebop-a-rop-pop or whatever the hell it's supposed to be. Fighting enemies with your nose hairs as defense against an empire that wants everyone bald... I read the two comics in Shonen Jump. It makes less sense than Digicharat and Excel Saga put together, and that's saying something.

BoBoBo Bo Bo BoBo has probably scarred me for life. Donpatch cannot choose a gender/species.

Yeah... Anime can be pretty bizzare at times. Oh well. *shrugs* I guess that's why we like it.

I'm afraid the only anime I know is the stuff on cartoon network/ adult swim.

from that, I'd have to nominate aforementioned animes FLCL and Bobo-bobobobo as well as Paranoia Agent and Super Milkchan.
