Discussion thread for Webcomic Above
Yeah, I've been reading it from the shadows, but while the idea is simple, the thread itself is confusing. Why are people allowed to place placeholders in the first place? I get that it's because otherwise two people might accidentally review the same comic, but surely you have to write the review immediately after placing the placeholder? Some of those holders in there are really old!
So, maybe someday I'll join in, maybe not. I need a bigger archive first, I guess, and I know for sure I'm gonna get flamed for not actually using any art. But hey, I like being flamed. That's why I went into the comic business

Well, I put my placeholder yesterday for A.N.T. because I wanted to go ahead and put my place in before I started work on the actual review. I didn't want to get started reading only to come back and someone else has already done the review I was working on.
But then again, it's not 24 hours later and my review is finished and added. And you're right, some of those are *really* old.

Yeah that's what I meant, place the placeholder, read the comic, write the review. That's perfectly okay, and logical too. But the oldest placeholder there is *looks* 2 weeks old or something, and that's just not right, is it?
So as long as it's within one-three days, it's okay, but it looks as if some of those placeholders are never going to be replaced...

Preach, Pin. ^^
This drives me nuts -- why is it that, lately, this community seems to be turning everything into a complaint session/debate/squabble/flame-war/neverending poll? The whole "webcomic tabloid" thing has it bang-on.
Oh, *edit*: Made some clarifications on the first post. If anyone wants to suggest something else that needs to be written there, let me know.

On the original topic, I am really happy with the review I got from Levi-chan (than again, who wouldn't be happy for a 4.5/5 score? ) I always thought any reviewer would consider my comic pure crap, so it's nice to hear otherwise. Now I have the strenght to take the harsh reviews.
Also, Mozilla and my page are sworn enemies. I've tried revising it a zillion times, but either my HTMl shk1llz are simply not 1337 enough, or Mozilla has just decided to hate me. Hmm, maybe I should put a bare-bones 'Even Mozilla can handle this' alternative page up?
Oh, and sorry if I missed the point by posting twice. I thought we were allowed to do so. *Gets to work on her Feyenne review*
[EDIT] Netpoet, I read your review as well now, and I'm very happy with it. And as for the garish backgound... I know. I had planned for it to be some fluffy-happy-pink thing, but in the coloring process I discovered that PSP didn't have anything like that and I didn't have the time to go back and draw a background by hand, so I had to go with that... thing. Many apologies to your eyes. I won't do that again. [/EDIT]

Shows who's due the most urgently
I've marked who all's been done, who's due reviews, and where we're at in the list.

And nicely done at that..... I think we can get it back on track people just need to realize exactly what's up.... it's not a review for the person above you, but a review for the person above you who has done a reviewnetpoet wrote:

No problems Corgan, and get crackin' on scarecrow, I truely do want to see what you do with that format. I think it's an absolutly brilliant approach and really want to see where the comic is going.corgan_dane wrote:I'll have Dawg's up later today, by god!
...and the review of Scarecrow was incredible. Thanks, AnywhereButHere, you made my day/week/month/century.
(Also, off topic, but I'm going to seriously get my half of that fifty first dates strip to you soon. I feel like such a slacker lately.)

I'm not leaving, I just need a short break. And yes, I said I'd get your review soon -- I hope to have it done today on my lunch break.Spriteville, USA wrote:Remus said he was leaving, I wonder if he'll do my review first?
Rpin, I've never heard of this 'game' before, and I expect I'm not alone. It might have helped if you had, ya know, posted the rules first?

I tried doing that and it went okay until NETPOET went and put lists and stuff in!Keffria wrote:Perhaps we should just wipe the slate clean - forget all these chains of placeholders and just start with whoever's posted last?
Honestly though, I've seen two of these threads before, this is really the first time they've ended up FUBAR like this. It'll sort itself out before too long. It seems to be about to untangle itself pretty shortly if people are ready to give properly before receiving.
I agree with McDuffies that you should give a proper review and do it for the poster above you instead of just a bit of a quickl plug. But, you win some, you lose some, you get up in the morning and see what hits you in the face next, eh?
Let it keep running.

Personally, I liked the reviews so far. Heck, it led to me remaking my website.

The thread just has a nasty habit of getting tangled in on itself. You get your review and move on, that's pretty much the only rule. I can't remember if multiple reviews of one comic is allowed, I believe it was when the thread was getting to the point where everyone who would have been reviewed has been. I could be wrong. If the thread had a bit more moderation it would go a LOT smoother. Just a pop in every page or so to keep people on topic and in the right direction, I'd think.
Keff was the one who started the thread and she posted as much information as it contained in the previous reincarnations. Maybe you are right, but for me I guess it's you guys that have less common sense than past reviewers had.RemusShepherd wrote:Rpin, I've never heard of this 'game' before, and I expect I'm not alone. Plus, too much rules can suck up the fun, and I don't think what I said would be necessary IF people knew what to expect from this game and what their roles in it are.

Well, do you want me to start keeping track of who needs to do who's review and what not? I can kinda direct people a bit if need be and that sort of thing. I'm on quite a few times during the day too, so things wouldn't get wildly out of hand TOO fast.PinDummy wrote:Keff was the one who started the thread and she posted as much information as it contained in the previous reincarnations. Actually I started this thread because (1 it felt like a good idea at the time and (2. I wanted to be able to talk about the niggling, interesting points somebody brings up without muddying up the thread.RPin wrote:A thread for discussion of Webcomic Above is not necessary at all if people follow my guidelines. It's either that or have the thread die prematurely due to mess and confusion.
Now, if you really want to know what I think, here's the deal:
Webcomic Above is a fun game, but should be taken seriously. It's an exercise for those who know not to review and criticize just as it is a way to get a nice review so you can know what works about our comic and what doesn't. Having other people read the review you passed instead of just only the reviewee is also crucial, because this is also a way to get word about your comic out.
You're right. It IS a game. But it's a game where you can get some pretty good advice. Usually getting a review in Webcomic Above makes me go dig up my Human Anatomy Made Incredibly Easy book out of whatever pile it ended up in this time and start actually USING it again. And it's irritationg to either not be able to talk about the review or screw the whole thread up.
And I mean...come on, it's not rocket science. It's a review thread, and there isn't much point in my mind to having a review done, have one point you thought you were doing well in get shot down and then not be able to ask "How do I fix this" because you'll screw the game up six ways to Sunday.
PMing is a good idea. I never thought about that. Obviously, lots of people didn't either, which is how the thread got FUBAR. It's better in my mind to make the solution pretty dang frigging obvious then to expect the idiots, myself included, to find the pretty solution on thier own.
