Keenspace will soon be Toonspace

This is where past, great threads in the history of our forum go.

Hmmm... I can't seem to work a way to reuse the same star shape on a T. Besides, Texaco already does that.

Here's an idea: why not hold a whole new contest like the one last year? Since we're supposedly starting from scrap, I guess a new image for WHATEVERSpace shouldn't sound so bad.

Toonspace sounds fine.

Now bring Kelly back, and we're peachy keen. Er, toony. :)

It IS fun, isn't it! :)

It's about 12 bucks a month to have a domain with eMail capabilities. Anyone feels like setting up something like that that shuttles people over to your toonspace account, then the added benefit is that you can put video clips/flash animation on the PAID site, and not gum up keenspace's servers - and then just link to it from the toonspace site - plus it's easier to say MYNAMEcomics.com anyway, when telling people about it.

So that's one way to make the situation a little better, I suppose - - if you have a little $$ to pay monthly.

:o ... how 'bout newspace?
XD haha, but I guess that kind of sounds like news-pace.
But it would be a clever play on how keenspace is being reborn into something new, thus newspace!
...or neospace? (oh no, neopets association!! GAH)
...or freshspace? (hard to read... hmm)
...or genspace? (like genesis)
...or theraspace (thera meaning old .. I think, from um, sanskrit? Prakrit?)

I'll add my .02 in.

I'm not a big fan of Toonspace.com for the reasons others mentioned - toons are cartoons - animated things. They're usually goofy and funny, which won't fit a big sector of the population.

I like webcomicspace.com better and don't at all see the relevance of typing in four more letters. Especially when many people just click on links and/or favorites to get to our pages.

All that said, it was a business decision, and it was made. We have it on record that we can use the ToonSpace brand for promotion and so on, and it doesn't get confused with the Keenspot comics, which will end a lot of petty fighting.

Finally, I'd like to remind people about Chris Crosby's quote:
Chris Crosby wrote: To those who don't like the name we ultimately chose, I'm sorry. If you fear it may lose you readership, I would suggest purchasing your own domain name and having it pointed to your 'space site.
A domain name costs damn near nothing anymore (I'm sorry... seven to ten bucks, once a year, just isn't worth crying about), and you can promote your comic on it's own domain.

I gotta say, while I don't like the name, I'm glad the decision is done. Can we get back to being 'Spacers now?

A domain needs a DNS server to resolve to something a computer can handle (pulling up webpages is complex). With pointing, you're assuming that the server will always be at the same place on the 'net, and you'll letting, say, Godaddy handle the DNS servers.

We've moved to another ISP and back again within that time. We couldn't take our IP numbers with us. If you pointed your domain to someplace in SagoNet, and are wondering where your comic is, you don't have the right IP address and really need to get it "parked".

With Parking, 'Space will handle the DNS servers for you, and if we move, your domain automatically updates to the new address. No muss, no fuss, eazy on all of us.

Wow. You guys talk a lot.

Personally, I find name Toonspace bland and uninteresting. It just isn't catchy, it doesn't have anything in it that would hook to your ear. It looks like you picked the most generic possible name from the list.

But I'm ok with it, because Keenspace had it's downsides too, and yet it liven up. As Ryuko said, that "Keen" in keenspace just sounds... well, it sounds like some kid slang from thirty years ago, which it probably is.
Honestly, whenever I was telling someone my URL, respond was "mcduffies.what?" so Keenspace isn't so smooth to begin with. It's just that we're used to it.
I'm a bit miffed that there were much better choices than this one, though.

But I just wanna go on with my life, draw comics, mock Mooman and other funny stuff.

Anyway, wherever you turn, someone will be unhappy. Perhaps it would be a good idea if there were more domains to choose, so, for instance, we could pick mcduffies.toonspace.com or mcduffies.stripspace.com, mcduffies.komikspace.kom or whatever seems more suiting. It seems like the only way to make everyon (or at least most of people) happy. Plus, with more domains, we could confuse a bit people who don't read comics if they're hosted on keenspace and stuff.

STrRedWolf, we register our domain, would it be hosted on the space server? Or would we need our own host then direct it to the space servers?

Peachy Keen sound way, WAY better than toony. :( blegh. Keen has such a classy ring to it... Toon makes me think of ballpits at chuckEcheese.

Like I said, Peachykeencomics.com IS available, it sounds neat, and it WOULDN'T be confusing because it's clearly different, but it WOULD still give props to the KeenSpot connection. It sounds, to be redundant, peachy keen to me. But if it's set at Toonspace, it's set on Toonspace.

Well, I for one, would like to say that I'm very keen on Toonspace.
It's about time this announcement had some positve feedback.

Not even sure I've ever heard neek before - but wouldn't those make this kind of an AMIME-ONLY kinda vibe?

And Beyond-Alpha - I've never laughed more heartily at a flaming cross... you're a bad, bad person, and you amuse me greatly.

I think it's sort of late to complain or suggest anything now. We'll just learn to like it, I guess.

The T still troubles me, tho. :D
