This Codex sounds like the famous Lotus Sutra. If you read the book with that title, it actually spends most of its time talking about the greatness of the Lotus Sutra and telling stories about how the Buddha learned it in a prior life and how others attained the essential insight leading to Enlightenment from it. The Sutra itself, apparently, cannot actually be written down and one must intuit the contents by contemplating these stories, which are meant to outline and point at it without actually being the thing itself. Incidentally, the Buddha credits Devadatta, his infamous cousin and follower who became jealous and tried to kill him (a possible source of the Judas figure), with revealing the Lotus Sutra to him in his immediately previous life and states that otherwise it would have been many eons yet before he was ready to achieve Enlightenment. He also predicts that Devadatta himself will become a Buddha in the far distant future, although the Buddhist sense of terms like "far distant future" is akin to that of astronomers and cosmologists.

Incidentally, does this Codex have a source or did you create it from whole cloth?

The DeSaulian Codex is somewhat different; what it is exactly will be explained in the next update (which will hopefully be next Monday: depends on whether or not I have to go into work on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend).

And I like to think my full idea for it is pretty unique (haven't even scratched the surface of it yet).

You mentioned Desaul is/might be a member of the fate, is that referring to the group from Delta Green? or Fate inc.?

Fate Inc. Hopefully, I'm not stepping on anyone's copywrite; it just strikes me as having the right tone for a Victorian club of seers and clairavoyants. Maybe I'll change it to The Fated. Hrm.

I like Fate, Inc.

Although I strongly suspect that, back during the Victorian age, they used a name like 'The Enlightened Order of the Third Eye of Fate's Left Toenail Clippings' or something pompous like that.

I think secret societies back then had a contest about how overblown their names could get.

Quantum: Oh, yeah, I'm sticking with Fate, Inc for the modern day one. I was musing about what they would be called back in Ye Olden Days. Possibly I'll go with several different groups; haven't quite decided yet.

Or I'm just being obtuse. One creature we've met so far that might conceivably write himself out of reality is of the simian variety, with a mind almost like that of a fictional character.

Hm.

Going along with the theme... perhaps -three- groups.

One gathering of antiquarians and retrocognitives, one group of seers and forward-thinkers, and one group that just spied on and clairvoyantly viewed things in the present.

Just a thought. Perhaps I'm -too- connected to the Rule of Three for my own good, though.
