OMG.. My site's a dump site?

Post by Hard »

I got this E-mail:

<I>In order to keep keenspace fair and accessable to everyone, something
has triggered your account removal, at the bottom of this message will
be the reason. This message is automated, please do not reply to it.
Please see the help forum at viewforum.php?f=1

Reason for removal:
Manually selected for removal
Dump site:
Your account has been detected as a dump site due to storage of non-comic
files.

Thank you.

The KeenAdmins and Space Wranglers</I>

Although I haven't updated this site in a long time, there is nothing on it but html and GIF/JPG files, and all GIF/JPG files have a legal HTML associated with it. I guess I don't care that much if it's deleted, but I am curious to know what is considered a "non-comic file" :)

Ahh, reading the thread below explains a few things! Or doesn't.

I have comics at that site at http://uwakimono.keenspace.com/ahmog.html , and at http://uwakimono.keenspace.com/spike.html . I also have an art gallery of comic works at http://uwakimono.keenspace.com/women.html (the previous two links are not work safe).

All images have HTML, and all HTML has an advertisement banner that is keenspace's.

What I haven't done is made a front page ... I blame my laziness, but I'm still very interested to know how it's considered a dump site!

I haven't looked at the site but I got the impression there was no comic there, just fanart. That could be it.

Is so, then fair enough, I reckon.

I don't really care if it's deleted, I don't want people to think I was storing porn on it, like Faub acccuses. "A Heart Made of Glass" was a pretty popular comic, too.

Heh, more like the opposite. He had at least 5 different comics on there, and a gallery of about 25 pictures with maybe 2-3 of those being fanart, the rest being original stuff.

AT least SOMEONE read my comics on that site! I think you even linked to "A HEart Made of Glass" yourself!

I've still got it linked -- right on top of the list, baby. Proof that there WAS a comic there, at least.

Well, I guess this and this are proof enough.

WOW! You can read the comic and everything from there! But Faub said there were no comics, just porn! How can this be?

The so-called "porn"

Full of vulgar sexual displays you would never see in your average popular manga series like "Tenjo Tenge" -- HEY WHAT IS MY CHARACTER DOING THERE??

I think I appreciate the female body too much. That's why I'm getting deleted.

It was nice of them to e-mail you to see what the deal was, or at least give you a warning before deleting the account.

Oh wait, they didn't.

I don't think faub was pointing yours out to get it deleted, but to show that some sites that are high on the guide are legitimate even if they don't strictly appear to be.

Hey, that's insensitive. Think about it from their position: what's the use of having power unless you can wield it whenever you like?

I think calling my work "all porn" was rather on the harsh side.

That's very true.

For the record, most of the comments in the thread below referred to the first site, which WAS a dumpsite. (except for the ones which specifically referred to it, of course.)

I'm afraid I haven't seen your site before Kelly took it down, Clay, so I may be wrong, but from his point of view I supposed it looked like a whole bunch images being linked from another site and with no links to it or anything that would have classified as comic content from the index page.

Pretty much the same way a lot of sites try and use Keenspace as an image host, so that might be what triggered the removal.

Please don't be silly, Clay.

Remember, even if there was comic content there, remember if the admins can't find it easilly they won't know it's there and will mistake it for a dumpsite.

If you think it was a mistake, and just clarify as you have done, I'm sure Kelly will do a recheck or something shortly.

Weird, I was under the opinion that it was impossible to link images outside keenspace, so it was something I never tried.

I did have a main page once, but I broke it somehow, and it was on my list of things to do when I get time. However, as a number of sites directly linked to the A Heart Made of Glass comic, I didn't fool around with that at all.

However, EVERY SINGLE image on the site had an HTML that had the correct ***advertisement*** at the top. I did not use it as a dump... this was a popular comic. It just needed a title page.

The remark about appreciating the female body was simply a joke. My problem is I don't appreciate it enough!

Clay once told me to give each picture in my comic gallery its own HTML page with a banner ad on top (which I still haven't done yet 'cause I'm lazy) because otherwise I was violating the TOS. He was a model Keencitizen! Until his house got bulldozed. ;_;

Well, if it's a mistake I'm sure it'll get cleared up soon. I may be mistaken again (because I don't do the server work) but I'm pretty sure Keenspsace keeps backups and I think if you can prove there is comic content there it should be all right providing you fix the frontpage thing.

So there's really no need to panic or get a presecution complex anything ;) Remember it's <s>stressed, tired and overworked</s> people that do the administration, they don't have much time to check every folder, and they are prone to making mistakes. (Add the fact Kisai's on vacation, and Keenspace's been acting flakey, things have been a little tough lately)

But they are still people, and they'll listen to reason if you let them know you think there's been a mistake. I'm sure they'll see about rectifying it if there is one.

Well, I'm pretty sure that was NOT the reason it was pulled. Mostly likely the admin wasn't able to find the pages with the comics on it.

Remember, just having ***advertisement*** doesn't mean the content is a comic. I mean, if we stuck by that principle, it's be an open loophole for anyone who wanted to use it as an imagehost and was smart enough not to hotlink.

And I repeat, the reason the site was pulled was NOT because it was 'all porn'. It was pulled because it was perceived to be 'non-comic'.

Like I said, if you proved that there were comics on it, then it shouldn't be a problem, and presumably when Kelly takes a look at this thread he'll take a second look and stuff.

Well, it's only the direct hotlinking it stops, I'm afraid. But nothing stops a person from just making a html page, dumping their non comic files on it, and linking that from an outside page.

ps: If you like, I'll keep an eye out for Kelly, and I'll point him towards the thread if I see him online.
