Heh, just checked to see which you were talking about. That should make things . . . interesting where inter-PC politics are concerned, I'm sure. ;)
My thoughts on the whisper gnome is that the Hide and Move Silently modifiers might become nasty (Hide gets +4 racial, +4 size, and +1 from +2 dex, which means it already starts at +9 from the begining character).
Yah, there's that, and there's some other small things (like having a speed of 30 ft. and having both low-light and darkvision) that might add up to something larger. Hopefully they won't, however, and the very fact that you're addressing these things yourself tells me that you'll probably know to reign your character in on your own when necessary. :)
Any house rules? Will you be using point-buy, roll at the chat, or roll and honor system?
The way I have my players roll stats is a bit unusual, so we'll be doing it in IRC under my supervision. I'll tell you now that all of your stats may seem a bit high, but I run my games rather challenging so it all evens out. I tend to think of PCs as being like the superheroes of their world, epic warriors that are a good bit stronger, smarter, and faster than everyone else and all that jazz.

As for house rules . . . as I stated earlier in the thread, I play rather fast and loose with the rules in general, often fudging around with modifiers and making snap estimations when necessary so things don't get too bogged down. If things are going a bit slow already, for example, I might just treat a mounted charge as a regular attack so we can just get through it and move on to the next round. However, if I do something like this and you'd rather use the actual rules in a specific circumstance, just tell me and I'll most often agree to do so as long as it doesn't bother the other players.

However, in these cases, I do expect the requesting player to help me out with the action resolution, especially if they plan to do something like - using the example above - make mounted charges for the next several rounds. Mostly this just means you need to keep your modifiers in mind and be ready to give them to me as soon as I ask for 'em so I don't have to keep writing things down or scrolling back up in the IRC log or re-doing the calculations in my head every time it comes to your turn or whatever.

Other than that, I'm open to anyone elses' suggestions for house rules. That isn't to say that I'll just allow 'em, of course, but I'll certainly listen to 'em. ;)

hmm, so the "Orion gets +10 to all ability scores rule" probably won't fly? It worked great in all those games I DMed before.

Well, I'll reserve the sorcerer/wizard type myself. Are we sticking to 1st level characters? or will we be starting higher?

I'm easy as to what class I am. Fighter or rogue seem to be the available choices left (or supporting bard)... yeah, I'm happy to play any of those.

AS FOR TIMES
I nominate a start around 4am-5am GMT.

We should also get each other's MSN names and stuff so it's easier to coordinate.

(edit) You chumps all use AOL or something, I bet, huh. *flings hands up in the air exasperatedly* Fiiine. Now I just need to remember what my screen name is on that.

No, we'll probably use IRC or the OpenRPG stuff.

Yeah, but I'm not always connected to that, am I?
I mean, use it just for coordination and stuff, not for actually gaming.

Level 1.

That's . . . about 10-11pm Central, looks like. Definitely doable.

esn1g at earthlink dot net. Not that I ever use it or any other IM anymore. And I don't really see the difference between meeting on MSN and meeting on IRC for coordination purposes.

I thought my character from maple story had a good look for a starting wizard. viewtopic.php?p=719455#719455 replace that staff with a spear and the book with a buckler and you've got a sorcerer.

Oh, I do have some more questions too, mostly having to do with non-core material. From what you've said you don't seem to have a problem with us drawing stuff from books other than the 3 core (except psionics, you darn person) ones, but I wanted to check first.

1) first do you allow feats from books like forgotten realms books (namely the 3.5 players guide to faerun)? (I was thinking of asking about spellfire but I think I can guess the answer to that  )

2) on the subject of #1. Do you allow the special regional feats presented in forgotten realms. In case you don't have the book, regional feats are feats that must be taken at 1st level, only one regional feat may be had, and they are more powerful than standard feats, usually granting something like a 1st level class ability, such as +10 to speed, +5 hp (as opposed to toughness), or some similar moderately potent 1 time ability.

3) Do you allow spells from books like the player's guide to faerun or ebberon?

And accompanying that post, Komiyan, should have been a little bit telling us what you CAN do.

No, for the most part. The main reason is that, while I have access to FR books, I don't have access to them right now, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get ahold of them again anytime very soon.

The secondary reason, tho', is that most of the FR stuff - as it seems you already know - is quite potent and often overpowered . . . which I fully understand when one is running a Realms game, seeing as Faerun is an even more dangerous place than what I myself run. But we won't be running a Realms game, so it'll be uneccessary to be that powerful to start off with.

However, if you find something that's better balanced towards a standard D&D world in FR and want to use it, we might be able to work something out.

Would you be completely against a bot playing for me? Considering it will probably only be available after you start?

Not as such, as my present knowledge base is not yet up to spec.

But you still didn't answer my question...
If I looked at the source for OpenRPG and hobbled together enough AI to follow the party and fight things, would you allow it in your game?
