I'm overwhelmed. Forum readers like me! They REALLY like me!!! I'm in the top 20 of the busiest forums.
Actually, and now I show myself up as a Really Sad Person... I just snicked off and did a quick tally of forum posts and totals. Boring stuff!
As at 20:40 07/12/00 the 20 most popular forums with over 100 posts were:
Shinkutokimekisempukaku - 3798
Boxjam's Doodle - 2192
Chopping Block - 1614
Nowhere Man - 1165
Pimp Cow - 1065
Six Foot Peter - 1023
Gene Catlow - 938
Jackie's Fridge - 825 (1468 counting all 3 JoBeth forums)
Exploitation Now - 709
The Sporkman Chronicles - 674
Unnatural, but true! - 564

Blotto Street - 445

What/s A Life? - 205
Life on Forbez - 202

Merlin's Crew - 157
Together We Fall - 153
Arrogance in Simplicity - 145
Psychic Dyslexia Institute - 141
Well, no surprises with Shinky-and-all-the-rest-of-it there... especially as they were aptly described as "psycho posters" ;) but actually, you know, it more or less sums up the 'Space comics which we hear most of. But you never know what will happen, a posting flurry can dramatically change anyone's rankings and there were quite a few new forums added.
Mab

It's a mishearing of a move from the Street Fighter games ("Shin tatsumakisempukyaku", meaning "Super Hurricane Kick").
There are a lot of those BTW. Since most of the words are in Japanese, but American players weren't expecting that, people tried to fit what they were hearing to words they knew. For example, "tatsumakisempukyaku" (which was pretty garbled in Street Fighter 2) always sounded like "electric blue kick" to me. Likewise, "shoryuken" sounds sort of like "all you can".
Capcom even made fun of that with the "Sodom" character in Street Fighter Alpha, who is an American who tries to be as Japanese as possible but fails miserably--he wears a Samurai helmet with a football outfit, and says mangled Japanese-made-into-English phrases like "Dye job death car?" (instead of "daijoubu desu ka?" which means "are you all right?")
Thus ends my offtopic ramblings about Street Fighter. It won't happen again, I promise. Unless I forget.
------------------

Not too surprising that "Boxjam's Doodle" and "Chopping Block" are up there, and actually relatively close (pretty much the same people post to both forums, including the respective artists, and most frequent "Diabolica" as well), but that both were beaten by the unpronouncable forum is rather unexpected. "Pocket" and "Blotto Street" have a certain advantage, though, only in that several vocal members of the "CRFH" coterie frequent both forums (and "Gene Catlow" has quite a lot of speculation, with Mr. Schissel again being an active participant, as he appears to be in four of the top ten, counting this forum.)
I still wonder why "Blotto Street" and "Boxjam's Doodle" seem to be the only Keenspace comics whose forums link back to the strips (at least so far.)

Willis?
Would I?
Nah. Actually, lets face it, I'mn referring to the Shinkime-and-all-the-rest-of-it-knickers forum. Somehow when I start trying to spell that, I keep "creatively" misspelling it. I'd quote a few examples, but a G-rated cartoon strip artist is on the forum . Another Keenspace cartoonist described the people on that forum, rather unkindly, but oddly aptly as "psycho posters ."
Oh hang on. I said that before. Bad me. Repetition bad. Bad me. Bad me.
*bap*
Mab
ps: For the records, I have nothing against Shinkokimesempublahblahblahkaku, it's just got one of those names you just have the URGE to butcher.
------------------

Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote/The droughte of March hath poerced to the roote....
What's not fun about that? Especially once you hit cheese, corn, and buckets? (I had a strange undergrad Chaucer class...Most famous comment from the prof: "People in most narratives don't have butts. They don't have genitals, and they certainly don't fart.")
Chaucer is fun! especially having to explain Middle English as sounding like, "What would happen if Bob Dylan and The Swedish Chef had a love child and the child was learning French and German at the same time..."
ni mitre, croune, nor diademe (bork, bork, Kill the chickie!!!!!!!)
Then again, I just survived the Hamlet seminar from HELL!!!!! The prof is two years from retiring, and it showed. we spent most of the class talking about his latest creation: JonBenet: The Muscial (I do not kid) Not to mention his wives, his sex life, his true identity as melancholy Dane HIMSELF, and, of course, the good ol' days when profs could do their students!
What area of lit are you studying?
Poor Mab...what you must think of American academics, not to mention Americans as a whole, after all this...
Verm
------------------

Jackie's Fridge also does, I believe, I think the JoBeth forums all have a link-back. You have to request a link back from Teri however.
Mab
