Luprand wrote:Meh ... I never was really into piercing (I prefer to pierce people with my steely GAZE!!!!!) ... but in all seriousness, I never really saw the point.

Is the piercing to show how manly you are? ... girls are usually more impressed by a guy who can move furniture for them.

Is it to be an individual? ... sure, just like everyone else.

Is it to make a statement? ... "I have no nerve endings here anymore!"

I guess a lot of my opinion of piercing was knowing someone who had his eyebrow pierced. But then he got tired of it a few months later and took it out. And now his eyebrow won't grow back in the place where he got it pierced.

It never struck me as something necessary.

Seeing as you have some other friends with piercings.... *L* I have two piercings in the ears because when I was little (3) my mom gave me a bowl cut and everyone said "What a cute little boy you have there"  Needless to say, I got the piercings shortly there after, but not by my choice. The second holes were a dare that my mom put me up to. I really see no point to any other piercings though...

I have a really crooked tounge ring. People don't really relize how crooked it is until I show them. That's what happens when you get it done for 12 dollars in Bangkok

No tats, no piercings. Don't think I'd ever get a piercing, but if I were to get a tattoo it would be of the Uffington Horse, don't know where I'd put it, but I always thought that'd be a cool tattoo. (I also think there is an unwritten rule that if an XTC fan gets a tattoo it has to be of the Uffington Horse)

tats? I have one. A little lizard crawling down my cleavage.

I want to get a lotus bloom acrossed the small of my back, but I know that will hurt like hell... so I think I'll get my hands on some vicadin first or something. I don't think Vioxx will do the trick (Pain killer I was on for something else, very mild)

There was a psuedo artist lady who got all sorts of peircings on her body, you name the external body part she probably has it pierced. Anyway she decided to light herself on fire one day and dance around. Burnt down an underground peircing parlour in the process...and that's the end of my story.

Oh yeah and I have my ears pierced that's about it.

me and my friend jen had this tradition where everytime we finished exams, we'd go get something pieced. This actaully only happened twice, because after that we ran out of the things we were willing to pierce.

so, I have my belly button and my ear cartilidge pierced.

Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

I was the unfortunate victim of an inadvertant viewing of a penis head being pierced. I happened to turn JUST in time to see the needle touch skin and push all the way through. A single drop of blood popped out with the needle on the other end.

Gaaah. I still shudder when I think of it. Yaaargh.

In my humble (and uninvited) opinion, the ultimate act of rebellion is to be well-informed when making decisions that impact your body and lifestyle, and to be well-situated in your own beliefs and desires so that you are confident in your lifestyle despite whatever the mainstream or the counter-culture has to say about it.

Now, regarding piercings and tattoos, these things have been with us since we crawled out of the caves. And even then it was a blend of spiritual and aesthetic ambitions. Today, the use of piercings for the aesthetic impact leans more heavily on the counter-culture, but that's swinging. This is why we don't often think of it as so "extreme". I remember when men were still discouraged from piercing their ears, due to the gender stereotype. Now who thinks twice about it? Also, do you see how many young women have the small of their backs tattooed with tribal designs? And how ubiquitous has the navel piercings become? Our sense of the cultural aesthetic is swinging again, and is embracing some piercings and tattoos. And, thankfully, is also swinging to embrace fuller physiques (rather than the anorexic ideal of the late 70's through the 90's).

I know I really didn't say anything just then, but I still feel smug about it.

No, tatooed! Not pierced!
