Summer Event??

Postby BOMC on Tue Jul 06, 2004 3:45 am

Is any big summer event type thing going on this year? I remeber 'spot had the bikeeni thing a while back, and 'space had the winter-clothing one. I think there have been a few others, too.

Anyone know if anything like that is being organized this year?

I don't think so. Maybe you could organise one? I'd certainly join.

yeah, now that I'm actually starting to interact with the other artists, I wouldn't mind getting in on these things.

Summer

Postby Zoing on Tue Jul 06, 2004 4:28 pm

Summer - the present of all luxury, what nature can give
Summer - so much hope in future you will find only then
Leafs - like dancing shadows blinking on the sunrays
Dreaming ideas blended with the real luckyness
Created in sunlights, mornings of wellness

A fly kissed my out of my beauty dreams
Dark eyes of my beloved woman
Here smile and a move on me
Spend me all the happyness of the world
Behind here blue sky white clouds a genko on the wall

wow, that was.... not helpful at all. :P

So, then, shall I volunteer to organise this thing myself or would anyone like to help? I do need ideas on what the event could be.

Hey, sounds like fun...

...what exactly is meant by "event"? Displaying pictures here, or just posting them on our own site?
Just to be clear. :-?

I know in the past they've done things like "Keensummer"---basically, good-looking characters from your strip in bikinis, speedoes, or thongs. I never joined them for that, didn't tink it would fit my main character.---Al

I think we would put all the images on one page, pimpette. More official that way.

perhaps we could still go with a summer theme, but it doesn't have to be at the beach or involve skimpy clothing. Just some drawings of your characters in a summer-like situation (ie having a picnic, eating ice cream cones or popsicles, at a summer camp, etc).

any thoughts? or better ideas?

Oh, they have to be good-looking now, do they, Al? Well that counts erm... most of my characters out. Mine is a comic full of ugly folks. That and folks who get entirely too little sun. No wonder I don't get fanart!

But summer-ish situations then? That's do-able. I can make plenty of summer-ish situations.

I like this idea - we should go ahead with it!

Please bear in mind, though, that Keenspot usually does the Bikini Summer, and an event too similar will look like Johnny-come-lately.

In the past, Keenspace did the Winter clothing event, as a direct opposite.

I believe that last year we had the Keenlace event. James Thorpe ran that one. It kicked up the bikini fanservice a notch by drawing characters in lingerie.

Just FYI.

There's always a 'cosplay' event, characters dressed up as characters from other strips...

Nah... summer is best bet.

If the guy is still alive, you could put the event on that site, (if you decide what event you're doing, that is)

And if he's not reachable, there's always http://spacejams.keenspace.com maintained by mcDuffies.

And about the good-looking-ness, as far as I understood, the even was supposed to be a sort of joke of the whole bikeeni thing, and the ugliness would be perfect, I think.

oh, BTW, that cosplay sounds fun IMHO.

'Cosplay', huh? Where's this event? Or do we just draw our characters dressed up as another comic's in a strip or a fanart or something?

Yeah, but that haven't done that for one or two years now, so I thing the summer event market is wide open.

cosplay sounds interesting, but I also really like the idea of fall/spring clothing.

maybe we should have a vote...

Summer Cosplay

Postby EmergencyExit on Wed Jul 07, 2004 6:09 pm

All the ideas sound great, I'd like to get in on whatever is decided. I kinda liked the idea of cosplaying other comic characters. Maybe we can do a cosplay switch thing with how ever many Keenspace comic artists join in. Everyone gets assigned a keenspace comic to cosplay and then the art is posted on a site so everyone can so who did who. But then, that sounds like a secret Santa thing. Hmm, just a suggestion though, feel free to ignore me entirely.

I wonder if you want to save the cosplay thing for closer to Halloween, when it'd be almost expected to dress up as each other's characters.
