A new cliche
Weeelll, I've never seen this one mentioned before and I don't remember it in HNTRAC. I was just thumbing through the Keenspace samples and found these...
http://www.keenspace.com/signup_samples ... &name=eden
http://www.keenspace.com/signup_samples ... e=ricecafe
http://www.keenspace.com/signup_samples ... name=candi
http://www.keenspace.com/signup_samples ... &name=pssn
http://www.keenspace.com/signup_samples ... eachlolita
http://www.keenspace.com/signup_samples ... ctivespace
Seems like a popular way to start a comic.

One of the finest shows ever made started out this way. People are just trying to emulate it's greatnessWhen I wake up in the mornin'
And the alarm gives out a warnin'
I don't think I'll ever make it on time!

Warren

Comics. Drawn poorly.

It's grey, not gray. And it always has been.

KKB doesn't follow the cliche

see her alarm goes "bzzzzzzzzzz" not "beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep"

Some cliches are cliches because people jump on a bandwagon, but some cliches are cliches because they just seem an obvious way of doing things. Lots of people can thik them up completely indepentantly of each other.McBean wrote:On of the finest shows ever made started out this way. People are just trying to emulate it's greatness
I'd say this is the latter. It's a very simple, easy and direct way of starting a story and it mirrors how we think of real life. I mean there're the sayings "dawn of a new era", "twilight years" and so on. Same thing.

Well, there goes the opening scene of Dreamscape.... Wait, if it doesn't use an alarm clock, is it still cliche?

Boy, since there are so many examples, that must be a cliche.
Just as the one where new kid is comming to school (I wonder why I'm the only one who did this one in HNTRAC)
But what's with that opsession of people to start with a clean slate? (Most of them later spoil that with number of flashbacks anyway) I mean, what's wrong with starting a webcomic with a guy hit by a flying hamburger?
In defense, I'd read at least two of those comics from Joel's post.

I suppose Sailor Moon was the pioneer in the world of cliches. It did everything we now know as overdone FIRST, and back then, it rocked ass. 8)
