I have some questions on the keenspace web setup...

...since it's my first time here. I'm posting them all here so they can get answered....

1) Can you save your strips using future dates in the calender, so you can work ahead and it'll still be updated as it should be?

2) 'dailytemplate.html' is the HTML file used for the archive template, I know this is a stupid question, but I want to make sure that we're on the same page here.

3) I can't seem to find the tutorials to the dropdown menus. Please tell me what the URL is. Thanks.

I'm sure that more questions will be comming in future posts. Thanks in advance for answering them all

1) Yep, I just got back from a vacation where 3 strips updated while I was gone.

2) Correct.

3) Do you mean the storyline dropdowns, or joining comic dropdowns, or creating your own comic dropdowns?

Thanks for the answers for 1. and 2. On 3., I'm referring to the storyline dropdowns first. But then I realized that I might need a menu for my main site, as well as a listing of other sites of interest.

The only places I've found docs on storyline and comic dropdowns is here:

The taglossary has a link but you have to have a keenspot userid (not keenspace) to use it.

New Question: How do you keep future strips from being shown. That's the major bug I found in the site while I was still seeing it. (The DNS part of the web started to act ****y not too soon afterward.) Any tag or code that would keep others from going too far ahead?

Strips should not update until their dates (in their names) have been reached. Before that they're not evern inthe public directory, so nobody but you should have access to them.

BTW, you might want to remove the current 20031228.jpg and the 20031228.html file from /d when your strip is ready to start. I think it's very nice, but it's the kind of thing that clutters up an archive. You may have already thought of that, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Here's a little helper site that some people have put togetherfor those kinds of issues.

So internittals aren't exactly good form. And I learn something new every day. I'm still learning the ropes on making Keenspace sites, so once I get over my initial hurdles, I'll fish out the dross from the /d directory (Is that where the archives strips and files go?) and put them in a seperate directory. (I was thinking of using other 'Dead Piro Day' strips to use for character definition, side notes in the environment, and such. As with the obvious 'filler' pic--that Keyblade from H*** should be fodder for your "how not to run a comic" series, or so some people may say. But I have to say that some of those examples make my crap look like Mega-phracking-Tokyo!!)

Once the server stops acting like some Anime Fanboi groups I know!! (Stares daggers at the person running the server for livewire.keenspace.com: "Host Not Found again?! You should have rejected my application and save us some grief, you know."

A word to the wise, daveykins: Don't. The "person", from what I gather (I'm new here myself) is Kisai. That's it. Just one person for the whole dang keenspace website. 1 admin, about 10-100 decent users and at least 10000 spoiled brats and male hi school l33t-speaking anti-social fantasy dwellers. I'm a system-level programmer, and I've had to support fractious users before, but none like this:viewtopic.php?t=54954. It ain't easy, and the worst behaved people in the world ALL have internet connections. And somehow, a whole bunch of them seem to get filtered and corraled right here on keenspace.
Just looking over the recent posts in the Help and General Discussions, either one or both of the following is true:

Daveykins, don't take me the wrong way. I actually don't mind the pic you've got up right now. It just won't be a useful thing in the archives, that's all.

And yeah, don't get too frustrated with Kisai. It's pretty much just her making sure that thousands of keenspace comics all work together happily on one server, and it's not even a full time job for her. I understand your frustration, though. It's can definitely be a little frustrating at first.

My apologies then. I know from personal experience how hard it is for just one person to run anything. Kisai's job must be formidable if it is just her that's running the show. I do hope things get better for her, and yourself as well.

I was just reading along to find stuff out when I chanced upon this thread and the link to the argument topic above. You guys have the patience of Job!
Wouldn't it have been so much easier and stress-free just to remove that person's account?
Anyway...looking at that thread with a prepared perspective, I quite enjoyed reading all the ranting that went on and then the measured, patient responses...
