Frankly, I think Ilya's slams are *SO* over-the-top that if he were slamming me, I wouldn't take it at all seriously. I'd probably liken it to Howard Stern sending Stuttering John out to ask a celeb a bunch of horrible questions when they're giving a speech at the Pediatric Aids Foundation or something.
Stern just wants to see who'll play along. He wants to see who doesn't take themselves too seriously.
If someone really cares that one guy wants to publicly abuse them and their work, then they probably shouldn't be putting their work out there for the public to see. Because no matter what it is, good or not, SOMEONE isn't going to like it, and they'll say so.
All Case has done by hosting Ilya's smears is to generate a few more hits for himself, AND for the comics that Ilya covers---because people are gonna want to see if they're REALLY that bad.
Bad reviews are hard to take. Criticism is hard to take. But if you're a creator, you have to be open to them. You at least have to tolerate them. Ilya's articles are neither reviews nor criticism. They're the work of a lone gunman. They're rants. They're meant to tear the comic apart, then see who gets upset. Most of all, if you don't share his dislike for the comic, then they're not meant to be taken seriously. If Ilya's THAT objectionable, then you simply ignore him.
I'm not endorsing them. They're a little too hard to follow to make me laugh. But they don't offend me either. They simply are, and Case is just playing the part of real-life Horse by hosting them. He's under no obligation to toe any lines.
---Lee

------------------

Who asked you anyway, Lee? You're such a girl.
...
No, wait. I agree with you.
Personally, I find Ilya to be an incredibly refreshing perspective on what is pretty much an ingrown community. Since we all know each other, I think everybody thinks it would be impolite to say anything too negative. There are plenty of toons I don't like. Instead of saying anything, of course, I just stop reading.
But when Ilya does one of these incredible pent-up raging rants about something I didn't particularly care for (or even something I do), it stirs something in my redneck genetic makeup, something that wants to spit some chaw through that gap where its front teeth used to be, kick a dog or two, and piss on the neighbor.
Call me recidivist, but that's entertainment. Ilya makes this place a lot more colorful -- and if you don't like him, well, stop reading.
Or attack him. Which has turned out to be a lot more fun. So ... never mind.
But Lee's still a girl.
------------------

I have been reduced to absolute speechlessness. That's either brilliant or the most incredibly inane idea I've ever heard.
------------------
