OT: Associated Student Bodies
Actually, this has little to do with Associated Student Bodies except for the cover of issue 6. I'm not trying to start a debate on Christianity and homosexuality and blahblahblahnity...but this cover is far too beautiful and emo to keep out of everyone's sight. I have to share it.
Now, regular copyright bs applies, even though I scanned it myself. Download, look, gape, but don't redistribute all over the ether, eh? I wanna support the artists.

I want this as a (official) full-sized poster... *drool*

Wow... that's beautiful. I LOVE the imagery... the rosetta, and the two furs, one in it, and one outside... Wonderful. It raises questions of fidelity... devotion, love... salvation and failing... I wanna read the story now...
Excellent Bible verse.. a lot of foreshadowing there....

The big question is... Once you've had weasel sticks, can you ever go back?

Associated Student Bodies is a comic about a guy named Daniel who discovers that he's gay while at collage. It's adult themed, and gets pornographic at times, but deals with alot of issues related to homosexuality. For example, in the issue Elix posted the cover for, Daniel is forced to "come out" to his parents, who are particularly conservative Catholics. He gets into an arguement with his father about it, and then with his boyfriend, who came to his defense when it really would have been better for him to stay back. Danny runs off, and eventually winds up in a church, speaking to a priest about what happened.
It's a good series, if a little predicable. 7 was the last one I got, there were 2 more I think, that I should see if I can obtain.

Everyone has a different view of what is pornographic.Gloria wrote:One might question where there could ever be such a thing as tastefully done pornography...
Some cultures consider any skin showing on a woman as unacceptable.
Then on the other hand there are nudist colonies all over the world.

And one might get an answer. The people who would say "no" have only been exposed to pornography which appeals to base lust only without any attempt to trigger a true emotion.Gloria wrote:One might question where there could ever be such a thing as tastefully done pornography...
When pornography attempts to capture something more than an act, it becomes art. At this point, it is open to individual discretion on what is and is not tasteful as that is a matter of personal opinion for each work. My answer: yes there could be and yes there is.

I'm inclined to disagree, for reasons of pure desensitization and moral qualms... I mean... I don't have a problem with artistic nudity, and, in the sense of classical art, there's stuff that COULD be considered pornographic, I suppose. But... yeah. I really don't believe that sexuality is something that should BE out in the open where everybody can see it, because it's meant to be an intimate act between two people.
But, that's my view, and you all know what a stuffed-shirt conservativistic Christian goody-two shoes I am. I can't, and don't expect anybody with a secular viewpoint to agree with me.
Anywhoo...

However I'll..void(right term?) my 'opinions' on the potental 'tastfulness' of 'pornography' and the 'apostrophe'...
looks to be a very compelling storyline...

Im not evil, just sorely underrepresented...
Ah, you hit the stumbling block. Intimacy, as you conject, should not be out in the open. This argument has no merit on whether there is such a thing as tasteful pornography.
Let me illustrate that point by a hypothetical example. Let's say a woman is seperated from her lover for an extended period of time and considerable distance. Then it comes to pass she gets a letter from the man she left behind. The letter is several pages with a story written out of what her first night back with him will be like - his thoughts, his moves and motivations. Now this is something personal, between the two of them and as private as they wish to make it. Does privacy make this any less pornographic in nature? No.
Desensitization as it pertains to... what? An abatement of instinctual lust? I'm at a loss at how this effects tasteful pornography as this will have a greater impact than the fleeting aphrodisia to which lesser pornographic material caters. When artistic pornography conveys love, loss, vulnerability, tenderness, adoration it cannot be dismissed easily without dismissing those emotional values as well; if one successfully does that then there is a problem going far deeper than what we are discussing.
If you are uncomfortable with this discussion, Gloria, I'll let it drop at that.
