Frankly, I think mine lie more in storytelling, rather
than art, which is why I worry more about drawing
than the story. It's just a matter of getting one talent
up to match the other. :)

Thank you for all the compliments. :)

I'm a little alarmed :o by the expression of feeling, "...just a li-i-i-tle bit creepy, watching him eye the young pup..."

And I'm surprised :( by the lack of comments on the "Freefall" Forum about the addition of the piece in the Completely Off Topic but so CUTE Topic.

Especially when that was Drawn From The Heart.

Ya you do (taps foot) ;)
but now the major hurdle is the nervousness generated by trying to walk onto a stage after White Pony's artistic talent has shone! :o

Well, that was a lame joke on my part ...

But LevelHead's explanation reminded me of the longevity of unicorns. I guess that would necessitate a 'corn meeting (and losing :( ) new friends over the centuries.

That could get depressing to think about....

I used to do some drawing but then I got a mini-bike then a pickup and a four-wheel-drive then a girlfriend and my life went to h***. :o

Used to be into photography as well and I still dabble in it from time to time. I recently dug out my digital camera and have been taking it with me when I'm going to an interesting destination.

I seem to be most inspired when I'm driving. Occasionally the idea gets roughly drawn or written but usually I have to wait until my next stop and promptly forget.

Most of my hobby time is spent on trying to figure out computer stuff. I'm a bit of a late bloomer as I've only had a computer and been online about three years. I just got brave this year and ventured onto forums.

I guess the next step would be to put up a website, although I'm not sure the web would survive.

Yes my friend...now you're beginning to understand why most unicorns are solitary.

Our little unicorn has fought so hard, and endured so much to stay alive, so that he will continue to fulfill his Promise to Her: "That he would Always be here for her."

The Unicorn Legend, which was Lost for Centuries...has been Found Once Again.

You know, I have to wonder how many people were in the same situation I was in. From my perspective, since I had "Freefall" bookmarked long ago, the server had been down for two weeks. Only moments ago I learned that it had been "moved with no forwarding address".

Since no one here was talking about it, and this comment suggested that things on the Freefall forum were "normal", I went to Belfry.com and found the rearranged URL from there.

A jumplink really needs to be put on the old location. It's on the same server, but posts a "Bad address" just as if the server were dead. And since the server HAD failed, and I saw a message to that effect a couple of weeks ago, I did not look elsewhere.

And I missed Freefall. How many others still are?

Yes, but it got buried here <--

Thank you for the compliment Mako. I've been working hard on this. Not just the artwork, but the story behind it as well.

Yes very excellent pics by both Scott and White Pony. I saw the Jack in the box one from scott and WP's here I am. Am I missing one of Scotts titled where is Doctor Bowman going? Note to Levelhead, the server was down for a few days but the forwarding link worked fine for me. Still does. I bookmarked the new Freefall url without deleting the old one. If I forget the new one the old one gets me there. --doc

It is the sixth message on this thread.

Curious. There must have been an even earlier one that was still being forwarded until two weeks ago. As of an hour ago, it still did not work; I had tried it many times over the weeks.

Ah, I just recreated what I was using, and it still says "Network error":

This one works:

Please pass this along to Mark Stanley.

Time Enough for Love

No, I have never heard of this book, "Time Enough For Love." Maybe it's wise that I not know so that it won't enfluence my work. :)
It's science fiction, not fantasy. I doubt it could effect your work much, but it has some of the best quotes:
Lazarus Long wrote:But here is still more of the truth and all I'll try to say about it. Although long-life can be a burden, mostly it is a blessing. It gives time enough to learn, time enough to think, time enough not to hurry, time enough for love.

The way to live a long time--oh, a thousand years or more--is something between the way a child does it and the way a mature man does it. Give the future enough thought to be ready for it--but don't worry about it. Live each day as if you were to die next sunrise. Then face each sunrise as a fresh creation and live for it, joyously. And never think about the past. No regrets, ever.

Most people can't think, most of the remainder won't think, the small fraction who do think mostly can't do it very well. The extremely tiny fraction who think regularly, accurately, creatively, and without self-delusion- in the long run these are the only people who count...

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

I came, I saw, she conquered (the original Latin seems to have been garbled).

Time Enough to Love

Post by ZOMBIE USER 7666 »

Hmmm...spent some time this morning reading those quotes.

He choose the wrong title...
"Life As It Should Be," by Robert A. Heinlein.

"If I Have Time Enough to Read"

As for the stupidity factor...ROTFLOL -- I see it 20,000 times a day, everyday at Disney.

I'm encouraged to see that I'm not the only one who thinks about 3 to 5 things at the same time. People sometimes look at me funny with all those post-it notes stuck to my forehead. :D

A mental exercise in creativity: Close your eyes, (It's easier for beginners) Think of an alphabet block...picture it in your mind. Now take it and rotate it from left to right. Now roll it over from top to bottom. Notice the wood grain? What about the paint pealing on the letter "C"?

I've been able to take any 3 dimensional object, real or imagined, and do that. It's especially helpful when you're an artist and can't find a model of an anthropomorphic character. :D

Ah, an excellent exercise there WP. Scary perhaps that I also "chose" the C block for my exercise as well.

As to the details, I visualized the block with blue, red and yellow letters, but no wood grain. Had you said to visualize a wooden block, and then yes, I would have thought of the wood grain details, but for whatever I concentrated more on the message (the letters) than the medium (the wooden block).

Furthermore, why did I pick a wooden block? Certainly there are plastic kiddie blocks out there. Maybe a product of my olde pharte age perhaps?

Curious results indeed, although I suspect the cosmic consciousness is not particularly concerned with the results of me doing the exercise :)

My "c" block was white pine with only one face, the letter face, painted. The letter carved as a bas-relief and was green on a white background.

Wood is definitely and auld-phart thing. I was remembering a block in my toybox, and that dates back to pre 1967.

Mine was first a 3-d cyber model in neon colors, then I thought it would look cool in metal with embossing and repousse work, then upon mentioning wood, I made it out of oak, with faded paint on it, no flaking, and have since altered it to ebonwood with a variety of inlays. Each side has the same letter, but in different fonts. I can do it without closing my eyes, which really helps with patterning things out. I can either overlay it in a seperate space in my mind or superimpose it over where I am looking. But yeah, that was a fun exercise, Thanks. :D
