Seeing as I just spent three hours doing math in Justin's forum about voter fraud and intimidation, I have to ask:

Would it be bad of me to vote more than once? I've been holding myself back, trying to keep the sanctity of this grand experiment, but I kind of am attached to a particular outcome. What's your take?

The voting poll is cookiefied to go into lockdown for only 24 hours after you've voted, so you can actually vote five times a week if you want. If someone wants to go through the trouble of alternating computers or clearing their browser cache to squeeze some extra votes in, however, they deserve the extra votes, in my opinion
(not sure about Kathleen's take on it, and she automatically wins).

Seeing a higher number of votes makes me feel more loved.

Remember when you had that old poll, and I showed you how you could increment the poll values by running a query string to the page displaying the poll itself, and then just reloading it over and over and over again? It might take some serious hacking, but...

...actually, the whole thing's in Perl, meaning it's interpreted on the server's computer and I'd really have to do some hacking to change things. It's also keyed to IP, so clearing the browser cache won't work -- I tried spoofing it with Internet Explorer instead of the usual Netscape Navigator and it saw through me.

Yeah, I'd tend to think that if someone cares enough to go back and vote multiple times, or figures out how to screw the system a bit, it's not a big deal - more power to them. We're not electing the leader of the free world. I actually preferred that style of poll (now discontinued) that I had on my site a while back, where there was no cookie limitation on voting. I like seeing higher numbers of votes too, just like I like high site traffic statistics even when they're irrelevant or deceptive.

If you mean Your Choice, we don't plan it at all. That's the whole nature of it - we couldn't plan if we wanted to. We just go by the votes.
If you mean my regular comic, plans are always floating around in my mind months in advance, but rarely in a set form or order.

If we were smart, we'd have it mirrored on one of our Keen or Topcities sites until everything got fixed, since we only need to update it once a week and the voting poll runs independent of the webpage itself.

I post this here only because I'm sure I will forget ever thinking of this by the time I get home.

They still have creative control on the actions that we vote on.

Incidentally, How are the actions chosen. Do you both decide or does the person who made the previous strip make the new actions or is it something else.

It's up to whoever draws that week's comic to update both comic and poll. But there's always consulting back and forth.
We'll just see how this character develops! I think the poll choices and the creative control are about equal in their effect, and no matter what, we're in for some strange happenings.
