TCoW was originally based on a short story I'd written the year before. At the time I'd written it, I'd read a little Lovecraft (The Call of Cthulhu, naturally, as well as Haunter in the Darkness), a bit of Derleth, and some Lumley that I'd borrowed from somebody else (the Titus Crow books). I had some knowledge of the mythos, but not much.
The story itself was inspired by reading the (un)Official Lovecraft FAQ, more specifically, the advice on writing Lovecraftian fiction. I decided to write a story that broke as many of the guidelines as possible and ended up just getting carried away. TCoW was born (actually, CotW was, since I thought the stories name was 'Call of the Cthulhu').
Last summer I wanted to start a webcomic but had no idea what I wanted to do it on. I didn't want it to be something clich
Cthlulhu fhtagn that people would quit trying to wake him.
