Lovecraftian Dropdowns?

Post by Harmony0stars »

Hey, don't know if there's one out there, but there should be, don't you think?

My comic's vaguely Lovecraftian (got shuggoths for now), and there's yours, and a few others have had Lovecraftian elements. A dropdown or webring of some kind might be in order. It would make us all easier to find anyway. 8)

I suppose eventually we could even organize a cross over event if others were willing to make some dimensional jaunts. :P My comic takes place on an alternate earth. It's not funny like yours. I can only make with the funny in person. lol

So what do you think?

Sounds like a good idea to me.

No Lovecraft Dropdown

Post by Harmony0stars »

Aw well, looks like you and I are the only ones who thought it was a good idea. Or maybe there just aren't that many Lovecraftian comics out there.

Since it would be silly for a dropdown to only have two people on it, I did some digging around and found a couple web rings (that I can't figure out how to join) and an interesting CoC site. http://home.istar.ca/~eggvegg/C_D/page1.html

Basically you can decide to be "Mythos Compliant" or "Mythos Defiant" for the big crunch when the Old Ones finally break free and run rough-shod over the Earth. Well, I imagine you'd be Mythos Compliant. lol I am Defiant. Have to be my own demon, don't I? Heh

Anyway, thought I'd share.

Lessee... what Lovecraftian comics are there?
There's ours (obviously), as well as yours. Kevin Wolf does Mythocorp which incorperates (or incorperated) some of the cosmic horror aspect into his comic. There's also Ghastly, although he's more hentai than Lovecraft. I know that Mike Rosen-Molina's Fantastical Bestiary has featured Cthulhu once or twice as well.

Quite frankly, one of the reasons that I chose to do a Lovecraftian comic was that there weren't very many out there.

Really? I imagined you did a Lovecraftian comic cause you were a Lovecraft fan. heh

Moi, j'adore Lovecraft. :P (1 year of French and this is all I remember! heh)

Ah well, hope you found the link I posted useful anyway. Anything to get the hits, yes?

I still think you and I are the only true Lovecraftian comics. I'd say Mythocorps is borderline, though like ours, it does seem to be based in a Lovecraftian World at any rate. I don't think a comic can be called Lovecraftian just cause it features Cthulu, so Fantastic Bestiary would be out. Hell's Sweet Hell featured Cthulu too, but I wouldn't call it Lovecraftian. And Ghastly's comic is just....messed up. Sometimes it's funny, but often I just think...oooooooookaaaaaaaaaay? But interestingly enough, I read all of them. I wonder what other comics we have in common. lol

TCoW was originally based on a short story I'd written the year before. At the time I'd written it, I'd read a little Lovecraft (The Call of Cthulhu, naturally, as well as Haunter in the Darkness), a bit of Derleth, and some Lumley that I'd borrowed from somebody else (the Titus Crow books). I had some knowledge of the mythos, but not much.

The story itself was inspired by reading the (un)Official Lovecraft FAQ, more specifically, the advice on writing Lovecraftian fiction. I decided to write a story that broke as many of the guidelines as possible and ended up just getting carried away. TCoW was born (actually, CotW was, since I thought the stories name was 'Call of the Cthulhu').

Last summer I wanted to start a webcomic but had no idea what I wanted to do it on. I didn't want it to be something clich
