Yup! Just a five minute walk down the hill from me (but a longer walk back up because it's a steep hill! ). That's the River Nidd, as it passes beneath the craig upon which rests the ruins of Knaresborough Castle, in the town of Knaresborough. You have a very picturesque locality!
I wouldn't blame you for making the railway
bridge a prime photographic subject. There
are places as uniquely scenic where I live,
but it takes a bit of a walk or drive to get
there.

... Hmm. I think I'll see if I can dig out my mom's photos from when we went to the Carmanah Valley many years ago. (Glacier-fed streams...BRR. And, the valley is part of Vancouver Island's geography...but it's not *that* close to Furriston.)

Well, I'd say "you can see Mt. Rainier from my house" but that isn't really saying much, since you can see it from nearly anywhere in the state... It's a little over an hour and a half's drive, when the weather's good.
If I showed you the scenery closer to my home, you wouldn't find it nearly as photogenic. It's a bit like the scenery into which vanished the nameless hero of "High Plains Drifter" (played by Clint Eastwood).

Yakima here. I was born in Seattle, spent a few decades in various other places, including Wichita, KS. where I learned to climb radio towers... Then got tired of ticks and chiggers and those annoying cicadas that buzz at you all summer... and went back to WA. Didn't quite make it all the way to the coast, though...

Oh, and I too used to climb radio towers on occasion -- 260 feet straight up -- mostly to replace burned-out bulbs, but occasionally to replace stolen ones or those that had been shot out (makes you feel real secure, I mean to tell you!) The antennas I climb now are equipped with stairs -- much easier!

Well, of course the very best place from which to greet a Heeba, is a few hundred feet up on a tower that is *swaying* slowly back and forth in the wind - just a few inches... Maybe while working on one of those outrigger arms that stick out about 6 feet from the tower...
At that point, it would be nice to greet a Heeba. Especially one that can fly and is a very good friend.

Now'a'days, I do most of my work on the ground, though. Part of my 12-step program to wean myself away from excessive use of adrenaline....

I was a Broadcast Engineer at the time for a small-to-modest radio station. I mostly repaired the transmitter and studio equipment and other things that kept them on the air. Every now and again though, someone has to change the burned-out lights on the towers to keep aircraft from running into them in the dark, and that happened to be part of my job too!

Ah yes....that last twenty feet of unguyed tower at the top that slowly sways and twists in the wind...watching your tools drop for several seconds after you've dropped them -- accidentally or otherwise -- to impact at high velocity with the ground...wondering how quickly you can climb down the tower if the guy with the .22 calibre rifle came back...ah! the good old days!

I'm glad you left Pandora behind, not only do I not want a war here, there's also the matter that soul eaters of all types (including Pandora) give me an affect similar to dragon fear (this is in real life) Basically my legs quiver, and I feel like I swallowed acid. Heck, even thinking about it does that. Ack!

But, hey! Speaking of those who know what the tools are but not how to put them to proper use effectively in an Anthropomorphic Genre (that's me), does anyone here know of any good books they may recommend on the subject?

I'm basically at the level where I can draw what I'm looking at with copious amounts of 2B pencil and an appropriate eraser, but I need more work in the "applying mental images to paper" sort of thing -- probably along the lines of how to create rough sketches with geometric objects and such and then using them as a guide to the finished product.

A favourable reply shall be rewarded with another incredibly cool photo of the Knaresborough Railway Viaduct!
