The director of the next Star Trek film shed some of his impressions in a recent Sci-Fi Wire article. Here's a link.

I have to agree with him. Letting a fresh mind in as director could be one of the best things to happen to the film.

Hmm...I was sure that this thread would at least attract some interest.

Sorry, Star Trek's just not on my interest list. Checked the link anyway, but the only thing that really caught my eye was the headline: (Terry) "Gilliam Berates Tomb Raider". The bit about him prepping Good Omens is probably old news to interested parties, though.

I'm more of a skiffy book fan myself. ALmost done with The Years of Rice and Salt, and have Baxter's Manifold:Origin next on my list, amongst other things. I also have every issue of F&SF for the past three years or so. Someplace. I think.

I like Star Trek (although I simply can NOT get into Enterprise), but discussion of movie directors quite honestly bores me. Sorry.

Whereas I'm quite "getting into" Enterprise, and love the ST:TNG reruns available every week night, the latest movies aren't doing anything for me. I'm quite puzzled by the fact that I've not seen Insurrection _at all_ since it came out several years ago, now. I'm hoping Nemesis is worthwhile, but I'm sure as heck not going to believe their own director! Of course he thinks it's good.

I heard that Wil Wheaton will return for a cameo as Wesley, who'll hopefully get a fair shake after all these years. Not as the techno-twerp that saves the day, or as some uber-being acting all Q like, but as a _person_. A person who has a non-Star Fleet Destiny.

As for what the movie is actually about, I've no clue. As long as those pathetic excuses for a villan, a.k.a. the Borg, aren't to be seen, it has possibilities. While they still had some life in them and were kinda spooky in First Contact, Voyager has made them a third rate sci-fi joke.

If all goes well, this will be a good movie, and the TNG people can fade quietly into retirement and con appearances (which they deserve). If things go baddly, this movie will bomb, and Paramount will do something drastic to Enterprise to try and compensate, like revising the standard Vulcan wardrobe to require transparent revealing cut-outs.
