Zzt?

Postby KingLeon on Mon Apr 01, 2002 7:14 pm

They all hear some high pitched squeal, the Prof is still waiting patiently outside the picture, then BOOM!
Okay... I guess that translates into: See it Tommorrow at Ten.

Is anyone missing from the last shot? I hope no one was made to self-explode...

Wait. Where's Harry?!

Oh, anyone noticing Guth giving Tim a look?

And when are the FIB reinforcements gonna get there?

Someone in the "Someone had to do it" thread guessed that the General blew up Stu, and that would be an interesting "lesson" for the Fans, but I can't quite swallow that for one reason: It looks like the explosion landed either right in the midst of the main group, or right behind them, on the other side of Stu.

Meaning that Stu would be the most likely survivor, not the most likely casualty. Can anyone else corroborate that? T? (Not that you'll answer, you scheming bastard ).

Be glad this isn't a Friday page.

Heh. Notice that Alisin is smiling in the last panel?

Quick observations. the only people who weren't zapped (or at least not portrayed as so) were Harry, Stu and The Doc. Note that these are all new characters. However, Jackie, and Timin both took a hit, so being new is not necesarily a protection.

My first guess is that either Harry or Stu is a plant by the General. She will descend, now that the group has been (mostly) neutralized and the Doc will make a stand. I bet he's stayed in the car to avoid orbital cameras, as the General can clearly observe all.

Stu doesn't count; he wasn't in the frame in the next-to-last panel, so he may have been out of range. Harry bothers the heck out of me. I do NOT believe he's an agent of The General. I'm more inclined to believe he's the fatality. Damn.

Stu's going to try to save them all, even though they just kicked him out. He's either going to go down fighting or be saved at the last minute by The Doctor.

That is, unless in this universe it's The Doctor who's the bad guy and The General who is, despite all appearances and despite what she may be in other universes) The Good Guy.

Hmmmm.

In any case, from Maccabee's hint, I'd say we're not going to find out this week. I think we have a really, really nasty cliffhanger coming Friday . . .

That was a real wrath of god moment there - covenants broken and all of that.

Nice touch - lightning rising from the ground, rather than as it's usually incorrectly shown descending from the heavens.

"Good. Bad. When it comes down to it, I'm the guy with the gun." -Ash

The General has now had a large scale impact on this timestream. What effect she had on it by "curing" Shana's mom is uncertain at this time.

While airing out opinions on the decisions that were just taken is interesting, the time for "coulda, shoulda, woulda" is past. The action has begun. What The General's intervention _actually_ is and what it will lead to is the question at hand, now.

The Skify core group has been reduced from 13 to 12 members. (hmmm. Easter just past. Biblical reference? How odd. And if Harry's absence from the last panel means anything, perhaps only 11.) How the remaining Skifies will be effected by this "attack" is unknown. The Doctor is still on the sidelines. The FIB backup team is nowhere in sight. Jones is on holiday.

Has the War begun? Or just the chaotic prelude?

Nullset:

Judging from the chapter heading (Disestablishing Shots) this is just the prelude to the interesting/nasty stuff.

I'm really not sure what the TZIT everyone seems to have heard was... Does anyone have a logical theory?

Static discharge about to rise into the atmosphere? It would be consistent with the clouds approaching in an earlier panel.

I gathered that the sound was like when you get zapped by a buildup of static electricity. Maybe the "tzit" was the sound of the charge buildup that caused the explosion...

Ever walk into a room, and hear the TV before you see it? Might be the same thing. The voltage causing that is only 120 watts. Maybe the General shot down a concentrated bolt of electricity, or caused one to happen? Only a harebrained theory, mind you.

Hrm. Could be.

They all seemed to be in some level of pain, so it was probably more serious than just a static buildup, but it could have been some sort of shock.

I suppose we'll learn more tomorrow.

True, Czhorat. I was just trying to gauge if this was the end of the begining of the end, or whether it was going to stretch out a bit more.

Also of interest will be if this is a "one day war", as is a popular way of plotting these days, or if this will be progress through the next weeks and months after this incident.

The theory that the "zzzt" indicates some sort of static discharge isn't a bad one, and would certainly be a good way to harming the Skifies without the rest of the world being alerted to other-natural causes.

If Harry is dead... Rikk will want to blame himself. Knowing what sort of stuff happens in the Scifi club, the danger, he invited a guy like Harry to come. I mean, the guy appeared pretty hale, but at that age, he might not be able to survive an explosion or lightning bolt or whatever like everyone else did...

Well, my other choice was that the group's super-powers had been revoked, but what were the odds of that?

What bringing him along? When they left Billberg, they were going to visit a dying friend in the hospital; not exactly a job for the Special Forces. All of this stuff happened to them on their way back -- it's not like they went looking for a Giant Floating Brain From Space to land on them (okay, so they followed after it; but it was going to the same place they were anyway), or a Strike Force From The Future to attck them.

It's not like that would stop Rikk from blaming himself. Things like guilt aren't necessarily logical.
