Oh I hope you're not thinking of quitting, the comic is really hitting it's stride now. I've loved Mike and Jet in the last few storylines.
How about an Aliens-like adventure where the ship gets damaged and Mike and Jet have to do the survival horror thing? They could sell the corpses to the "Corporation" for enough money to give the ship a spiffy upgrade.
Does the ship have any weaponry? I don't recall seeing any. I think it's cool that they have to do so much without computers and transporters.
Also if you want to learn about developing characters I recommend the book Heroes and Heroines: 16 Archtypes for Screenwriters.

Oh I'm deffinately not quiting this strip I'm having to much fun.
In between the hard work and thinking about story lines.
I just wanted to add a touch of ummm... let's call it realism to the strip. 'Cause there's no way someone could go through be shot at and nearly killed several times without it having some emotional impact upon you.
The rest of the characters in the strip have already gone thru things like this before. So Mike is the one who is most effected by this life of danger and thrills.
I'm going to spend most of April revealing bits of character backgrounds and just general character.
In the second week of April there'll even be KAROKE!!!

You also asked about weaponry.
Well as the Quicktrip is a transport vessel it has almost no real weaponry. There is just Doc's diabolical weapon whose function was mentioned <a href="http://captainmike.keenspace.com/d/2000 ... l">HERE</a>.
But other than the hand weapons the cargo ship is unarmred. Although that might not be the case for very long.
One final note. They DO have computers but they aren't some fantastical device that solves, or creates, problems on board the ship.

I wasn't really thinking you were quitting. Just playing along with the story. The development is good, and much needed.
Of the characters the only one I don't really like is Gek. Not that I hat him, but he's just sort of there. He seems like the Dax of the group, pretty but serves no real function.
Just some feedback.

I LOVE feed back!
That's why I responded, to encorage feed back.
Gek is the hardest character for me to write for. Gek's world revolves around the machines he works on. His own personal history, which I will eventually get around to, only magnifies that isolation.
So in the end I do end up using him to push the story along here and there without actually having him really participating in the story.

Well Mike, Jet, and Yukiro are great, I'm loving them. I kind of want to see Jet and Mike become better friends as a result of recent events.
I like how Jet lights up whenever Yukiro is in the room.
I hope the Gek background is revealed soon, I WANT to like him. The doctor is a little less developed, but he can get away with it because he serves an obvious function.

I intend to try and bring all the characters a little closer over the next month.
Right now the story line isn't very fleshed out in my head. But I will be trying to involve all the characters in an exploration of there relationships.
I'll probably start with Doc and Mike first.
I've been thinking of using Yukiro as a foil to bring Gek's background into the foreground.
