I's'a sorry, Unca Owlie. For some reason, UBB just hates me or something. I don't WANNA be the Kiss o' Death Purveyor around these parts, but some people grow into bustedness, and some have bustedness thrust upon them.
On another note, Laura Cantrell has an album out! I'm thinking of buying it. Because Lee Harvey Was a Friend of Mine.
It's sad.. that song was written by someone who didn't know Lee Harvey. It was a HOAX. A HOAX! A HOECS!!
------------------

I like the technique of placing reverb on drums. Lots of reverb. So it's like banging on crap in a big empty room. Perhaps one made of metal or something.
------------------

I will be saving all my money for the new TMBG album(s) whenever they exist.
By that I mean I hope napster-like services are running well then.
By that, I mean I will only sample the music and then buy the album in the far flung future, when I have money.
By that, I mean I'm going to kill Eva Gabor for $35.
By that, I mean I'll claim to for a magazine.
By that, I mean I'll SHOTGUN
------------------

Haha! Right now I'm listening to Mink Car! BUT YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NOT MP3 VERSION! So you will. BUT YOURS WON'T HAVE SIGNATURE! But you'll listen to it anyway, and you'll enjoy it greatly, and the signature doesn't really matter anyway, since you're not going to sell it.
SO HA!
Oh, I forgot to say: Most of the songs are different versions of the ones that were previously released on TMBG Unlimited, so I've got songs that YOU CAN'T HAVE! BOO!
[This message has been edited by Dezro (edited 08-03-2001).]

Bangs Question: I have no idea. I didn't get the McSweeney's yet. I doubt they're the same, though. I missed the first eMusic appearance of it too :(
Let's see... The following are changed:
Bangs: It probably changed, but I wouldn't know
Cyclops Rock: New music/vocals, removed Nixon in lieu of Chucky, corrected amount of glass eyes a cyclops would have, new lyrics
Man, It's So Loud In Here: Got hit by the remastering truck
Mr. Xcitement: I don't remember even hearing about this one, so either they didn't post it or I forgot it
I've Got A Fang: New music, maybe vocals, removal of non-Linnell vocals and lyrics, weird segment added
Hovering Sombrero: I dunno. Missed this one too, and I have problems that won't let me check the video, so...
Yeh Yeh: Nothing, but I wanted to go into a big rant about how eMusic constantly screws up titles. So here I go: EMUSIC CONSTANTLY SCREWS UP SONG TITLES! GRRR!
Hopeless Bleak Despair: I don't remember this one either. Huh.
Drink!: Flans sounds a bit raspier, it's a bit faster, exclamation mark added
Older: It's weird and I cannot explain it. Not as cool as the one on Long Tall Weekend
Mink Car: It's different, I just can't tell how
Wicked Little Critta: See above
Finished With Lies: It's different, but I forgot how the original one went and I don't have a copy of it on me, so...
She Thinks She's Edith Head: This is the 925th version of the song that TMBG made. WOO! Same as the Unlimited one, but it's creepier than the Long Tall Weekend one. It's not the McSweeney's one, 'cause they said that when the song was released on unlimited.
Working Undercover For The Man: The song isn't changed from the EP, but it does piss me off a little. I don't know why, but it does.
Damnit, I don't really think I needed to post this but what the Ho

Hmm. So, is "Bangs" different than the one on the McSweeney's disc? Cause, I'm kinda curious what the Clanger/Can't-Remember-Winstanley's-Nickname production did. Because they gots the Producin' Skillz. I hope they didn't get rid of the chewing synth sound. Cause that ruled.
Also, did you get album artwork or anything with that shiny new Mink Car?! Huh? OK. I saw the _tiny_ cover. Uh, if you get a bigger one for giving eMusic your filthy lucre, do you also get any info about the artwork? The style sorta reminds me of Shawn Wolfe, but I honestly haven't heard anything about him doing work for TMBG, but his site's sorta, oh, what's the word, oh yeah, woefully unupdated.
But it's a pretty cool cover. At least I think it is.
I think I saw a car.
And some words.
------------------

The McSweeney's disc is actually worth it. I was really surprised, honestly, but it had some of their best work in years.

Aw, man, it's my _favorite_ when Flans goes on Anti-Nixon rants. Like the one in the "Obscure #5" magazine I have, where he talks about how he'd like to dig up Nixon and make him explain Watergate Charlie McCarthy Style. I do remember Chucky being in the original (Chucky's arm kept him company... and I think he wouldn't die, either.), but it sucks that they swapped "Nixon" for "Chucky".
And it's funny, because until now, I didn't realise that "two glass eyes" didn't fit with the song. Heh.

quote:
Originally posted by Dezro:

I've got these both on the Radio Sampler Numbah One thing (the one with the big round balloons on the cover). I _think_ these are the album versions (according to the insert, really, but this was made several months ago, so they may have been remixed/redone by now)

quote:
Originally posted by Dezro:

I don't know, I'm getting kinda sick of them re-releasing _this_ on all the time, rather than Edith Head. At least it's a re-recording, though.

quote:
Originally posted by Dezro:

This song is odd. I heard it way back when it was first written, and I _ABSOLUTELY FUCKING DESPISED_ it. But then I heard a new arrangement 6 months to a year ago, and it was actually pretty cool. So, hopefully, it's the good arrangement, and not the irritating whine one.

quote:
Originally posted by Dezro:

As mentioned, I don't mind that they keep re-recording it. And I haven't heard the Unlimited one, so it'll be NEW TO ME, to paraphrase the stupidest advertising campaign NBC's ever come up with. And for the record, the McSweeney's version was the LTW version. HOWEVER! The version of Drinkin' that appears on McSweeney's is a different version than on LTW. It's a bit faster, and strikes me as a bit shorter. I'm not really sure which is better, cause they're both really good. I think the one on LTW sounds a little more complete, even if the McS one is a bit more energetic.

quote:
Originally posted by Dezro:

I don't mind if they're also back to being ~2 minutes long, it's just the POWER SPHERES! MELODY! FIDELITY! QUANTITY!
Unlike those bastardised power spheres which I refuse to acknowledge as canon, where they replaced "quantity" with "startling". I mean, really... "startling"? That doesn't even SOUND right. Nor does it end in "Y". It's like they got stupid for a few years, but now they're BACK. And they're BETTER'N'EVER!!
TENDUH!!! TENDUH IS THE MIND!!!!!
------------------
