Lyrics of the Week

Postby SuzyQ on Sat Apr 07, 2001 3:40 am

First off, I've got to say that LotW is a fantastic idea and I wish I'd thought of it myself. ("Don't Dream It's Over" may well be my favorite song ever by anybody.) Anyway, here are a few nominations:<P>"Here is the sting, I still want everything
Here is the twist, you're on my list." -John Wesley Harding, "Humble Bee"<P>"Some things you know, and some you just believe in
And hope it comes out even." -Aimee Mann, "Ray"<P>"Well I'm the lucky goon who composed this tune
from birds arranged on the high wire" -Elvis Costello, "Couldn't Call It Unexpected #4"<P>And my all-time favorite:<P>"I know who wrote the book of love
It was an idiot, it was a fool
A slobbering fool with a speech defect and a shaking hand
And he wrote my name next to yours.
(But it should have been David Byrne or somebody.)" -Robyn Hitchcock, "Freeze"<P><P>------------------

Don't worry Jed. You probably have enough lyrics in here to last you a lifetime. As for reviving the thread, well all I could think of right now is <I>duvet</I>! <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif"><P>Btw, maybe you can make LOTW a bi-weekly thing. Like post two lyrics per week. Don't know if that's a good idea but at least you don't get to stare at the same lyric the for one whole week. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif"> <P>"I am falling
I am fading
I am drowning
Help me to breathe<P>I am hurting
I have lost it all
I am losing
Help me to breathe..."

Hmm... let's see what I can come up with.<P>"Nothing, nothing seems to matter
The rain, the rain begins to fall
Nothing, nothing to believe in
Even angels learn to fall."
<I>-Front Line Assembly, "Prophecy"</I><P>"I'm not here
This isn't happening..."
<I>-Radiohead, "How To Disappear Completely"</I><P>"What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
And you can have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt."
<I>-Nine Inch Nails, "Hurt"</I><P>"It might feel good, it might sound a little something
But damn the game if it don't mean nothing
What is game, who got game
Where's the game in life
Behind the game, behind the game
I got game, she's got game, we got game
They got game, he got game
It might feel good, it might sound a little something
But f*** the game if it ain't saying nothing."
<I>-Public Enemy, "He Got Game"</I><P>------------------

"Learned to work the saxaphone,
And I play just what I feel.
Drink scotch whiskey all night long,
And die behind the wheel...<P>They got a name for the winners in the world,
And I want a name when I lose.
They call Alabama the 'Crimson Tide,'
Call me Deacon Blues...."<P> - Steely Dan, "Deacon Blues"
One I felt was appropriate, considering
the main cast.

Thank you, Colboy, and yes, "Deacon Blues" is the song's title. It took hearing that song at work on the local 70's station a hundred times before that was driven home ^^.

Hahaha! Saw my contribution up there! =)
Well Jed, even though you have enough lyrics here to last a lifetime, here's one more. It's from Castlevania Symphony of the night (you know this song hehehe). Sorry but I don't know who sang it.<P>" I can pretend (I can pretend)
I am the wind (I am the wind)
And I don't know if I will pass this way again
All things must end
Goodbye, my friend
Think of me when you see the sun or feel the wind"<P>I am the Wind, Ending Song of Castlevania Symphony of the Night.<P>Btw Kareshi-kun, you have good taste in music. I liked that song by Steely Dan. (Deacon Blues is the title of the song right?)<P>------------------

"That was the tip of the iceberg
The look that did you in
I should have seen it coming
The beginning of the end
Lying just below the surface
I didn

"Do me wrong, do me right, right now, baby
Go on and tell me lies, but hold me tight
Save your good-byes for the morning light
But don't let me be lonely tonight
I don't want to be lonely tonight...."<P> - James Taylor, "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight"
