Quite familiar with the place. Even like the Curve.

Getting ready to read "Shutter Island", but I've already seen the movie. Do you read books after you've seen the film?

Read the Percy Jackson series after seeing the film, saw the first book in a charity shop. Really got into them and seeing the film first doesn't spoil the book because they changed pretty much everything but the characters names. Even the bad guy is someone different.

Reading's a bit lighter when you already know what it's about.

That's why I never read the back cover of a book before I steal it.

But if what MCD is saying is true... by reading the back cover wouldn't you be able to carry more of them out?

No man, if you tear the whole cover off you can fit more books in your messenger bag.

I'm trying to apply for jobs/internships but crippling self doubt is really unhelpful in this scenario :/ I feel like the potential employer is just going to see my application and laugh and hand it around to all their coworkers and make fun of how underqualified I am.

I know I need to get over it and just *do it* but it's so stupidly scary, like when you're a little kid standing on the high dive for the first time, and you know it'll be okay because you've watched a million kids do it before but it's differnet when YOU'RE the one standing 20 feet above the water...

I hate today's job market. It requires you to be assertive, self-confident and full of yourself (all qualities that don't come naturally to me) even if you're applying for a job where these traits aren't necessary assets.

That is exactly the problem I'm having :/

I don't think being underqualified's as big a deal as you're making it out to be. Companies get a ton of applications from underqualified people. The ones that are actually laughable are the ones with stupid-ass resumés. Like:

-- Resumés that are 10 pages long and have the applicant's entire life story. ("When I was 4, I joined a T-ball league.")
-- Resumés where the applicant misspells his or her own name
-- Resumés where the applicant lists references but doesn't give any contact information for them
-- Resumés where the applicant lists stupid crap, like, "I like to play video games."

That's what you're up against here. So, as long as you're not a total derp, which you're obviously not, the worst that's gonna happen is your application gets dumped in the trash with the applications from all the other recent college grads who can't find work either. And while self-confidence 'n' all that might be a factor in a job interview, I'd consider even getting that far to already be a success.

This is all true. I'm just thinking of all the myriad ways I could do something wrong. It doesn't help that I live in New Jersey, near the densely populated armpit that is the "greater NYC area," where jobs are snatched up before you even have a chance to read the requirements description :P

I hope you manage to find something anyways. As long as you keep applying to jobs, things are bound to go your way eventually.

Yep... I've sent so many resumes in my life that I've became very callous... like, if they call me and I turn out to be terribly under-qualified or something, my attitude is "well it's their fault for calling me. It's not like my cv doesn't spell exactly how qualified I am."

I'm working at a portrait studio. Lots of happy cute little kids and families! It's a high-energy job which is probably better for me than some sort of desk job would be. I don't get tired in the middle of the day because you just have to keep going with whatever you're doing. But then I come home and crash XD
