Going in circles

Just setting up my comic. I got this message in my email "
Create a new password immediately for the FTP username:
http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com:8080/ ... ssword.cgi " ok so I put the name the email said to put in FTP username: misc-soup and it is coming up user name invalid. ooookkkkk... fine I put in the name for forum... user name invalid...I just want to get my stuff set up... What am I doing wrong?

You might want to search the help with signups sticky. Somewhere near the end it is mentioned that usernames with a dash don't work properly. I'm not sure if there's a way to solve this other than creating a new account with no dashes.
