Pogs

Post by Warlordofnoodles »

Quite a while ago I changed my pong, being informed that the old one would be removed upon the upload of a new one..... The old one is still there....It's been months. How do I go about making sure the old one is removed?

If you already have an approved pog and you wish to replace it, here are the steps to take:
Create a new pog, following the same steps you did for your first submission.
Make sure that you save this new pog with a different filename from your old one; failure to do so will result in the unavoidable deletion of both your old pog and the new one.
Send a private message to Keffria or Joel Fagin containing the date and time of your old pog's approval so that they can delete it.
Wait for your new submission to be approved.
Problems?
this is from the pog tutorial, but I don't know if those two are still doing it. plus for some unknown reason new banners, news boxs and pogs haven't been approved in awhile.

They haven't been approved because nobody has been doing it, partly on account of not being able to get into the siteadmin.

I will revamp this... some day.

For now I degraded the password handing for the siteadmin, so everyone should be able to get into it now, but please don't use it over un-encrypted wireless connections.

is there some way we can get someone else to do the approving? there was a thread about this awhile ago in GD and people have had stuff waiting for awhile. I wanted to make a newsbox for my new comic but if things aren't getting approved I wasn't going to bother. Last I heard Mercury Hat was doing the approval but she hasn't been around for awhile.

No idea. I'm not sure who's active enough that would want that responsibility. The newsboxes can generally be approved unless they're too risque. The Pogs and genchans have style conformance issues.

Looking through the list, it looks like a few more stylistic issues are relevant:
1. Can not approve corrupted files
2. Can not approve Chan's that do not align with the background of the comicgenesis.com page
3. Can not approve pogs where they do no not appear to differentiate from other pogs, eg "overly sketchy" and "sprite" pogs will generally not be approved.
4. Likewise Chans will not be approved if they appear amateur, sketchy, sprite, or generally "no effort". Unlike the pogs, there is no link back to the comic that the chans are displayed from, so there is actually a negative benefit to putting up poor chans, in that it makes the site as a whole look unprofessional.

I went through and approved a bunch of materials, but the utility for approving them has kinda suffered from non-maintenance, so at this point in time it's not viable to give permission to anyone else to do this, however I'll let people know once I design a new utility.

I see stuff was approved. thanks.
I guess it is hard to find someone to do it. I'd volunteer but I'm terrible with computer stuff

Well, all the siteadmin stuff was written against the phpBB2 template, so in order to make the tool functional again I have to write a new one from scratch, though the existing tool still works, it no longer has the ability to un-approve or fix mistakes. It can only approve or delete.

It looks like this:
approvepage.jpg

How do you know if these things don't get approved? Should I just submit a new one every month until I see it?

It will actually be deleted if it's absolutely not accepted. Make sure that if you re-submit something, that the filename is different.

So what if you had a pog newsbox , etc. but only your banner is showing in siteadmin? I haven't seen my pog show up on the main page and have been updating once a week for the last month. I would be glad to help with being part of an approval committee for pogs chans and newsboxes.

This is the general approval criteria:
All generic advertisement types (including the newsbox) are always approved unless they violate PG13, or are rather thoughtless looking. The most questionable newsbox was Cat9's as the cropping suggestive.

Pogs and Chans have the most style restrictions as they have to mesh properly with the front page, so approving them was actually a committee. Some browser technology has changed since then and we don't care about supporting IE6 anymore.

I haven't been approving the chans yet I have to emphasize that it needs to look nice, simply uploading whatever against the background isn't going to cut it. Since the committee seems to have been inactive for a while, It doesn't feel right to just approve anything.

I'm clear on the criteria just a little foggy on the process. So what I'm gathering so far is that if I re-submit my news box it will most likely go through but pogs are a little more tricky maybe not happening and chans are outright not happening at present. I'm going to submit my box and pog and see what happens but I was concerned about the lines that say use a different filename etc because I don't want to screw it up if mine still exist somewhere but aren't shown for some other reason. Is there a way for you to check and let me know Kisai?

The filenames need to be different otherwise it overwrites the previous instance of it. There is a design reason for this (non-approved are moved to approved with the same filename.) So if you upload it once as NEWSBOX1.jpg, the next time should be NEWSBOX2.png or NEWSBOX1a.jpg or something to that level.

I'll approve pogs if they look ok, but not chans yet.
