Re: So anyone heard a good album lately?
Lady Gaga, "The Fame Monster"
The first time I heard "Bad Romance", I didn't like it. So I put off listening to anything else of Lady Gaga. Then recently, a friend of mine showed me and a mutual friend the song's music video (as well as "Telephone"). Afterwards, I gave the rest of the album a listen and really liked it. Gaga has a great voice, the songs are catchy and have a good beat, and the album is now a part of my collection.
Drive-By Truckers, "The Big To-Do"
Them good ol' boys from Athens, GA show that Southern rock is still alive and well. A little bit of Lynard Skynard here and there, a lot of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and great all over. Even if you don't like that kind of music, you should at least give this album a try.
Phish, "Joy"
Which is what I felt when I found out Phish was reuniting after five years and were working on their next album. And Steve Lillywhite, who produced the ever so excellent "Billy Breathes", is at the helm. So I was expecting something really awesome. And right I was.
Right out the door is the upbeat "Backwards Down The Number Line", with guitar playing that just oozes of the late great Jerry Garcia, and that is awesome. There are a few really good songs on here (the sweet "Sugar Shack", "Stealing Time From A Faulty Plan", and the energetic "Kill Devil Falls", the last of which also reminds me so much of the Grateful Dead) and then there's the epic "Time Turns Elastic", which tops out at over 13 minutes and is probably my favourite from the album.
R.E.M., "Murmur"
Their first full album, from way back in 1983. Not quite as jangly as the previous "Chronic Town" EP, but there is still some really awesome stuff here.

The video for "Telephone" is brilliant. Mass murder followed by dancing in American flag underoos? Brilliant.

Speechless is still my favorite. Then of course there's her duet with Elton John with that and Your Song.
She's got some cool songs she wrote before she was Gaga too, check on youtube.

I'm the same Yeahduff. I hear Gaga ALOT, and I still can't get into it. I think she has an interesting visual performance, but the music really doesn't do anything for me.Yeahduff wrote:Still not feelin Gaga. The pre-Gaga days either.

I'm not a fan either. Her brand of "weird" seems forced to me, and though it seems like she has some musical skills, she's not really using them to full extent. Granted I don't hate her, unlike most of that genre.

Just yesterday I was given the Ragnarok Online OST by a friend for Christmas (only 6 months late, not bad by her standards).
It's a great soundtrack, but what makes this especially notable is that this is the first audio CD I have ever owned for which money has been exchanged.
I'm having a bit of trouble adjusting to this newfanged technology.

Destroid's Silent World EP. its been a few years since Loud Speaker, and I don't know how I feel about it. they seem to be going into a more Haujobb realm. And I really dig the more progressive style, Destroid has been doing. Its a good recording though. Its just that Daniel Meyer is already doing Haujobb and Cleener which are both very downbeat. I like the more Aggro soundscapes as something different.
Though I can't wait for the full release, that I hope is coming soon.

I got the new Glitch Mob album, Drink the sea. Not particularly complex, but very, very fun. BATTLE MUSIC.

"Discovery" by Daft Punk - pretty amazing album to listen to from start to finish.
"All Hands on the Bad One" by Sleater-Kinney - also pretty amazing, has a streak of really good songs on the second half of the album.
"Surfer Rosa" by Pixies - all of their stuff is great but I personally find this album to be their best.
"Death Proof" soundtrack - Quentin Tarantino sure knows how to pick 'em.
and lastly...
"Purple Rain" by Prince. Quite possibly the album that has come closest to total perfection. Only way it could have been better is if "Little Red Corvette" made it onto the tracklist.

I really don't like Prince. The thing is, I used to not, but the more I hear of his actual music, the less I appreciate him.
